Scarlet tiger moth (Panaxia dominula)

Hi!

I am a wildlife biology student trying to stablish if the Scarlet tiger Moth colony established in the Wirral in the 50s is still there. Anybody aware of any recent sightings in the area?

Also the latin name is no longer Panaxia dominula but Callimorpha dominula.

Welcome to the site.

Looking at my note's there are record's of it as recent as 1992 in the area. Unsure if there are any more recently. Worth looking along riverbanks, marshy woodland. More often than not its a diurnal species. (Although wrong time of year now).

The nbn gateway has records for 1989 and the 1992 records (June). Site details protected but... the County Moth Recorder would be the person to contact for sure

I believe it may well do as cheshire county recorder has a photo attributed to wirral area on the UK moth site. I am certain he will be able to give you all the information you require.
