| | Hi Snowey,
Any chance of a photograph of the caterpillar? You can either post it here on the forum or alternatively in the Gallery.
You should have a local biodiversity group near you with a county records officer that would certainly welcome your find. Take a look in our directory -http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/directory - and you should be able to find one |

| | | Eggs will probably hatch in a few days. These are difficult creatures to rear as they overwinter as small caterpillars and it's hard to get the conditions right in captivity. Best to let nature take its course - though if the eggs are on the windowsill the caterpillars may need some help getting to a suitable food plant.

| | Thankyou for replying, do you know what the most suitable plant would be? The adult was hovering around my hanging baskets which have marigolds, geraniums, petunias and lobelia in them. Are any of these suitable do you think?? |

| | | The books say it feeds on lots of things "a wide variety of garden and wild plants". So yes, the caterpillars will probably find something they like in your hanging baskets!

| | | I think the eggs of the Garden Tiger Moth on my window ledge must have died, they all seem to have what looks like pin pricks in them?? and i havent seen one hairy caterpillar yet! bit disappointed actually because I have never seen one before. Unless there are some in my hanging baskets. I shall look tomorrow | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
