| | Another micro moth ID request Hi Friends,
Here's a micro moth that was fluttering around my trap earlier this evening. I thought it maybe some kind of Gelechid, but as usual could make no progress on UK Moths (my shortcoming - not UK Moths)! Any ideas?
It's not the best photograph in the world - the moth flew away before I could take a better one (it was very lively).
With thanks and best wishes,
Steven. |

looks like Monopis sp, probably obviella, in the same family as the Clothes Moth (Tineidae). The larvae are detritivores. A good tip for recognizing Gelechids are the long upcurved palps btw.

Thanks for the speedy response. Not bad for a Saturday night! Monopis obviella looks pretty convincing to me, and the description on UK Moths fits.
This is the third new micro species I've seen in five days (nights?). They are all a welcome change to the Epiphyas postvittana, which is the only other species in the last three nights.
Thanks again for your help - I'm impressed by your knowledge and appreciate you sharing it,
Steve. |

This is another new species to me - the 94th species I've recorded since I started trapping in the summer. |

You'll catch up! I think I'm quite fortunate to have chalk downland, a wood, the coast and plenty of well-stocked gardens very close to where I trap. It's also really sheltered. The one thing you've got over me is several miles of land to the south of you; I've only got a mile before the sea!
Which part of Lewes do you trap in - Malling, Nevill?
Also, we're hoping to run some traps next year at Castle Hill on the cliffs at Newhaven. I'll let you know closer to the time if you're interested in coming along.

| | | Re: Another micro moth ID request I'm in Ringmer, so not quite in Lewes. I would be interested in Castle Hill. Sounds good to me....I am living in Chichester until December and have been down a couple of times to Pagham Harbour to have a look at the traps down there.

Cheers Jacob | Are they the traps run by Sarah? |
