| | | 3 Moths and a Mystery! Evenong Everyone,
Three moths from the trap last night...Are the first two Green-brindled Cresent?
Is this another Beaded Chestnut in poor condition?
And this last Mystery Guest! I thought it was my first micro moth but it looks more fly like now I have seen it in the light....

| | | Re: 3 Moths and a Mystery! I'd agree with your moth id's. The Green Brindled Crescent looks beautiful, it's not one I've managed to catch yet.
Your mystery insect is a Caddis fly, it's probably impossible to say which species it is. They turn up in moth traps quite frequently, I trapped last night and the Caddis flies outnumbered the moths! Did have a couple of Merveille du Jours though which is one I've always wanted to catch

I agree with your Moth ID's. The last image is of a Caddis Fly, but which one I haven't a clue.

| | | Re: 3 Moths and a Mystery! Thanks everyone really helpful....It's funny how there are moths that you really hope to see when you open your trap up....Currently I really want a Black Rustic, Oak Eggar and a Blood-veined moth!
That would do me! |

That would do me! | I know what you mean, at the start of this year I was really hoping for Buff Arches, Green Carpet, Iron Prominent and some Hawkmoths, which I was lucky enough to catch, but I'm still really hoping to see a Peach Blossom, Garden Tiger and Convolvulous Hawkmoth.

That would do me! | You're still on for Black Rustic this year, they should still be flying. Look out for Feathered Thorn, a nice and common sp which is about at the mo. |

| | | Re: 3 Moths and a Mystery! Hi Jacob,
Glad you're enjoying the mothing. You've had some species I aspire to.
I'm pretty certain your mystery Caddis Fly is Limnephilus lunatus - one of the later flying species. Have you had any of the sinister Ophion luteus wasps yet?
Best wishes,
Steven. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
