2 more moths to ID please

Hi All,

Here are a couple more moths that came to the traplast night. Any guidance much appreciated:

1. A plain but richly-coloured Geometer of some sort. I've searched Waring a couple of times but the closest I could get was a very dark Dotted Border. I think it's something else though. Note the rounded wing tips and the suggestion of a darker central band and circle on the wings.

2. Another tiny Tortrix - 8-10mm in length. Note the long antennae.

No 1 is Mottled Umber - wrong time of year for Dotted Border. No 2 is Carcina quercana, just pretending to be a tort!

Hi again David,

Funnily enough, the Dotted Border (on the wing Feb - April) and the Mottled Umber (Oct - Jan) are next to each other in Waring! The Mottled Umber is incredibly varied, isn't it?

Regarding the Carcina quercana : it's the second time I've posted this species - it caught me out last month and I think it was you who ID'd it for me then!

I'd better have an early night!
