| | ID Micro moth Hello again,
Can anyone offer an ID for ths little fella? Photo quality isn't too good - it flew off while I was trying to get a better shot! As a result I didn't measure it, but I would say about 10mm in length.
With thanks as always,
Steven. |

| | | Re: ID Micro moth That's great Tristan.
The description given in UK Moths suggests I'm in the right part of the country to catch this migrant coming in. I'll keep my eye out for more.
Thanks for your help.

Unbelievable how such a small moth can be a migrant.

I was thinking just the same - how could something so tiny fly across so much water? Do you think they hitch a lift on a boat?

| | | Re: Another micro moth for ID please... I should imagine they have learnt how to float across on the right winds. Mind you I was on a 6 day Pelagic in August and we were trapping moths hundreds of miles out to sea. We even had quite a few on the decks of the ship and one major rarity for Britain was found flying around the passageways around the cabins below decks.

John | I remember reading your posts about this at the time. Nature never ceases to amaze, does it?!
When you think how we humans like to challenge the boundaries of our world - it's quite possible that, wherever we go, plenty of other unlikely species have aready beaten us to it!
