| | | Moth Garden Records Hi all,
I run a website called Back Garden Moths. One of the things I would like to do this year is to try and collate some garden records from various locations across the uk and enter them into a central database where an assessment of species distribution can be made towards the end of the year. I'm currently working on a online record submission form, but in the meantime visitors to my website have been posting their records in my forum which has been a lot of fun. The information that has been posted is simply just the county and a list of species recorded on a particular night. If anyone else would like to get involved then that would be great and much appreciated. The grand plan is to publish the findings at the end of the year on the website in the form of a small report.
I hope you can help and many thanks

| | | Re: Moth Garden Records Hi Simon..........We are planning on getting the moth trap out tonight, but the trouble is, we don't know many of the names of moths and trying to find out is too much like hard work, not that we are lazy, its just that when you have so many moths, we just tend to look up the biggest, prettyest etc. Good luck with your site though...............Jon |

| | | Re: Moth Garden Records Simon - I'd be quite happy to contribute to this, it sounds a great idea.
Not too much doing here in Leicestershire yet - every time I put the trap out it fills with Hebrew Characters,Clouded Drabs & Common Quakers but little else as yet! |

| | | Re: Moth Garden Records Thanks for all the positive replies. I look forward to seeing your records. I know what you mean about all the Quakers, Drabs and Hebrew Characters. It would be nice to see something different for a change. I did have a nice surprise in the trap two weeks ago with a Tawny Pinion, which was an excellent record for Northants. Since then just the usual stuff.
Hope you all see something of interest over the weekend. The weather looks good !
Thanks

| | | Re: Moth Garden Records Nice couple of images Jon. The top one is called a Hebrew Character and the other is a Small Quaker. Probably two of the most common moths around at the moment. If you need help identifying them, on the Back Garden Moths website forum there is a dedicated section for moth identifications. This has a steady stream of images being posted for id's every day. Just join the forum and stick your images there for help. That is if you don't get any luck here of course. There's also been a lot of records added there, with some quite different results.
Thanks again.

| | | Re: Moth Garden Records Hi Simon,
Well no such luck from Jersey rained all day and all night. Four days off work and fog and rain. Will see what the weather is like tonight.
Regards
