Poplar Grey - Acronicta megacephala is the best I can do based on other pics on this forum. There are others in my books it could be. Taken at the Priory Water WAB meeting.

Hi Martin,
I can't see that it is anything other than Poplar Grey, although there are, as you say, some other very similar species (Knot Grass, Sycamore, Coronet).
The interesting thing is that the flight season for Poplar Grey was late May - early August. Could this be another example of an exceptional second brood? It might be worth sending your sighting to your county moth recorder, if you haven't already, as he/she may well be interested...

Pic was taken 12th August, I'm rather behind with my processing 
Knot Grass & Sycamore were the two other posables I'd thought of.
