| | | Elephant Hawk Moth I have just dug up my Corn on the Cob and discovered a EHM Caterpillar. I do not know what to do with it. At the moment I have put it in a box with some corn on the cob leaves but they will soon run out. |

have you got a Fuchsia in the garden ? at this time of year it is possibly looking for somewhere to pupate, put some soil in the container or, like me, use about ten sheets of kitchen roll and it should go under and turn.
Good luck,
neil |

| | | Re: Elephant Hawk Moth Rosebay Willowherb leaves will keep it happy if it is still feeding. Compost is as good as soil - you may be emptying a few pots at this time of the year. Moth emerges late May/early June in my experience |

Good luck,
neil | Helo Neil,
Either Fuchia or Willowherb will keep it satisfied until it pupates. It will spin a few leaves together to form a 'fishnet' cocoon. Once it does this make sure that the container is well ventilated, so that the leaves dry out rather than go mouldy. Keep it in a cool place overwinter (not a shed or greenhouse, they heat up on a sunny winters day) In march or April lightly mist with water once a week until it emerges.

Harry | Hi
I've just uploaded a pic of an elephant moth larva. Two are chomping away at my sisters fuschias and she is scared to death to go in the garden despite my stroking the back of one to show her they are harmless.
I was quite envious and wanted to take one home to put on a fuschia in my garden but decided to leaf well alone.
My Sister asked me if they would be O.K. since the weather has been kind of strange lately and if they needed protecting. Anyone any ideas? Is it the right time for them to be about?
