| | | Re: Moth Id's Please First is really worn so won't hazard a guess.
2 looks like a Large Yellow Underwing
3 is Copper/Svensson's Copper Underwing |

1. The first moth is very old and bald. I wouldn't like to offer a definitive ID, but it could be a Rustic of some sort...? Maybe a Square-spot Rustic, but it looks a little broad to me.
2. This is a Yellow Underwing of some sort: possibly a Large or a Lunar YU, although it's difficult to say for sure without knowing the size.
3. The third moth is interesting. I'm going to suggest Svensson's Copper Underwing, but it's really difficult to tell that from a Copper Underwing. It's one or the other anyway. Both are common species.
What type of trap did you borrow? How many species did you catch? Total catch number?
Best wishes,
Steven. |

| | | Re: Moth Id's Please I think the first one probably is a very worn Square-spot Rustic. They're on their way out now, and I'm getting several like this every night.
Second one is Large Yellow Underwing. Lunar is very rare in Britain now, and unless you're in the Brecks of East Anglia and one or two other areas in the south of England it's highly unlikely you'll ever see it.
Third one is probably Copper Underwing, but can't see the palps well enough to rule out Svensson's.

Andy | I agree with the first two but the palps have to be checked on the third. I was lucky enough to catch 5 Coppers and one Svennson's last night but had to photograph the head of each one to check them properly.
