| | More moth help requested! Hello Friends,
Another night out with the Skinner last night - and a few more moths that I would like more opinions on, if anyone cares to... [Please note that the squares on the paper behind the moths are 2mm in size.]
1. The first two look like Lunar Underwings, but one is redish and the other darker. Are they the same or different species? Are they Lunar Underwings? Those kidneys and ovals are quite bold.
2. This one is a rather nice-looking Carpet of some sort. It has something of the Galium Carpet about it (note the concave leading edge), but the Galium's flight period according to Waring is August at the latest. Also, it was a rather small moth - my estimation ~8-9mm. Any ideas?
3. I've almost convinced my self this is a tatty, well-flown Double-striped Pug. Does anyone have any other thoughts?
With thanks in advance,
Steven. |

| | | Re: More moth help requested! I agree with all these. I wouldn't worry too much about flight times - the periods given in Waring are more accurate than Skinner, but they're still subject to a lot of change these days with the climate doing odd things!

It was the Galium that troubled me the most because Waring gives a size of 13-15mm and mine was less than 10mm, but if you're both happy with that, then that's good for me!
Thanks again,

| | | Re: More moth help requested! I agree with all three. The Galium, although late, is definitely that moth. Note the slight concave edge to the wing, diagnostic of a Galium.
