| | | tonight's suprise! baby moth I found this crawling through the grass in my garden, I put it on a tree stump and it fell off and then climbed up the back, question is a) how long will it take to fill its wings? and b) what is it? Is it a hawkmoth of some sort? |

| | | Re: tonight's suprise! baby moth Nice find Gill, its a Poplar Hawkmoth.
Hopefully it should inflate its wings within an hour or two, unless of course it has a defect/problem, just occasionally they cannot infate their wings and in that case there is nothing you can do other than let nature take its course. |

yes quickly!!
and yes now I can see its a poplar hawk which is logical because next doors willow hangs over my garden - one of the wiggly wavy type of willows so not sallow but probably close enough! |

It doesn't have to be Sallow. I have found the caterpillars on creeping willow. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
