| | | 2 moths for ID I took this photo's a couple of weeks back, sorry I can't remember the size. I hope there is enough detail on the wing you can see.
This was taken last night and had about a 2.5cm wingspan. I thought it was a Mother Shipton but now I am not so sure.
ID's would be most welcome thanks. |

I'm not sure about number 2 but it isn't a Mother Shipton, they are day-flyers.

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID Thanks Guy. It seems that everytime I can ID a moth myself there are umpteen I can't, with there being so many I don't think I'll ever get to grips with them all even in my litttle garden. |

Don't know what the 2nd one is. It is a bit worn and would possibly want a good expert to comment on it.
Worn moths like the last one will test even the best so don't be alarmed by having ID problems at the start of this hobby. Some moths are very variable even when they are well marked and will throw you.

the second looks very much like an Ashworth's Rustic - Xestia ashworthii.

John | I have had Hearts and Darts in the garden this year and the photo's I took were obvious to ID, this angle really threw me, it's the trouble when I am trying to balance on a ladder and the moths always are on the flowers at the top of the Buddleia. Thanks John for your encouragement. Quote:

neil | I have never heard of that one, it wasn't in any of my books or on Back Garden moths, but now I have seen one on UK moths it seems a possibility, thanks neil. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
