I'll watch this with interest, I'm in the same boat - sinking?
Cheers

I will see how things go but the dissecting scope would obviously be the best solution.
| When I'm trying to get a section from something very small it really helps to cut it using the dissecting scope at 10x - the razor blade looked scarily huge to begin with though |

Don't just watch, by all means chip in whenever you have need. Hopefully this thread will be a kickstart for people like ourselves who are just putting our feet into the waters of microscopy - and any queries that you have will no doubt be relevant to myself and others too.
Regards,
Mike.

Yes, the scalpel looks like it could be used as a guillotine even under my desk magnifier.
When I sort the dissecting microscope out, that will be another learning curve.

As you say Nick, it really is an excellent book for detailed descriptions of all the various fungal features, and for clear explanations of all the associated microscopy techniques.
I'm now armed with Funga Nordica, and Microfungi on Land Plants too, so my excuses of not having the right info are diminishing fast.
More a case of "all the gear and not much idea" at the minute though. - but give me about twenty years to get to grips with it all, and I might be getting somewhere!!

Mike. |

| | | Re: Request for Microscopy Techniques/Info Go for it Mike, good luck - I suspect you will be posting and asking some good interesting stuff and knowledgable within a short time, knowing you.
My time is not currently very free, so have yet to start with microscopy in any meaningful way.................but in time!
Cheers
Ken
