Hi Martin - that particular effect (all my framing effects come to that) are done in Paint Shop Pro. That one if I remember properly is a simple Buttonise using the Dropper Tool to pick up a darker shade out of the pic (always out of the pic for tonal match - never straight from the pallette!) and it looks like I did it twice in two different depths - a greyer shade applied lightly at a certain width - then a darker shade applied at a thinner width - to give a graded sort of look ....... I think?! Its a while since I did that one ......

Martin I just thought I'd let you know that I had a phone call today from Slimbridge informing me I had won the National Nikon photographic competition.

Thanks Martin, it was nice meeting you as well, I like the Kingfisher image you put on today it really stands out, not an easy subject to get an action shot of, well done.

If I worked in an office I would tend to agree with you Martin, but I'm a carer for adults with learning disabilities and the date of the ceromony coincides with a course that I have to attend.
But thanks for your encouraging PM much appreciated.

Yes it is true Martin, and may I say a big thank you for your congratulations and best wishes in the final.
I'll have to wait until the 27th of this month for the results of that final which will be announced at a ceremony to be held in London, unfortunately due to work commitments I'm unable to attend, but I'm sure a good night will be had by everyone there.
This is the image that I submitted that won.

I entitled it "Taking a Ducking"

Thanks Martin, I see you have already answered some of my asks, lucky you!! the lens you are using is on my wish list now I know why your shots are so sharp plus a good steady bean bag which I know should make a big difference.

I have not been into photography all that long only used a point and shoot but moved up to DSLR to try my hand at photographing birds, lots more involved with a medium format camera than first thought. I use a Canon eos 1000d and the lens I use for birding is the Sigma canon fit 170-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG but finding I wont get the photograph results I want unless I move on to a lens similar to your own that's my thoughts anyway.

Hope to speak again soon and I will watch for anything new in your Gallery.. Regards John.

Sorry Martin I missed your message on 5th, I'm on holidays at the Carmarthen bay caravan park at the moment, and having some trouble connecting up with my laptop, but I'll be spending the day at the Wetlands on Thursday so if you get the chance to get there i'll keep my eye out for you.
Had a good day today at the bay next to Burry port, got abot 300 shots of the Glossy ibis
got to within 12 yards of a flock of 10 of them.

Yes I have noticed a lot of your photos are taken down there, I live almost within walking distance of it, but like to get my shots early or late in the day, and so only go i in there occasionally. But will keep my eye out for you.
