I think I owe you an apology. You left a comment on my blog back in December and I'm afraid I didn't notice it till just this week. I'm an infrequent blogger at the best of times and I sometimes wonder if I'll ever get the hang of this site's idiosynchrasies. That's not important now but I'd like to thank you for taking the time. Hi Ali,

I don't know what happened to the message I typed, only the end posted (so I'm now editing it!).

WAB is generally very friendly, with any apparently malicious posts usually misunderstandings (sometimes written comments seem worse than they were intended to be). Responses to your posts certainly seemed over the top to me though, hence my post.

As for the ID of your birds, I do think that you may be mistaken (especially if they were largely black and white, which is only breeding plumage for CF's). I don't know what to suggest from the details you gave, but feel free to send me a private message if you want to give more details, and discuss the ID, without anyone else (except I think admin & moderators) being able to view the conversation. It may not change your opinion, but you never know! And for the record, it's not always experienced observers that find rare birds, less experienced observers are just more likely not to recognise them as rare!
