OK, first things first - to start a new thread, go to the forum you want to post to, and click on the blue "New Thread" button near the top of the page, then just type away...
Siting a pond - the basic requirements are a sunny sheltered spot, away from overhanging trees but with vegetation close by. Ideally in a place where it can be viewed in comfort from the house or a conveniently placed garden seat.
Depth - the maximum depth for a wildlife pond is generally recommended as 70cm+, but this is to ensure that some water remains unfrozen even in the coldest winter. Given the winters we've been having recently, you can probably get away with less (unless you're in the far north). The greatest biodiversity occurs in water less than 10cm deep, so most of your pond should be shallow.
Size - the bigger, the better; but even a small pond is worthwhile. Keep it in scale with the garden, but you'll have to judge that for yourself.

and sorry, how do you start a new thread?

My garden is quite square, but has room for a pond. I'm not sure where to position it but it would be highly prefered by the far fence just by the flowerbeds. I greatly want to attract amphibious critters to my garden so how deep should the pond be and how big, roughly?

Of course. What do you want to know?

Can you help me? I'm new to the forums and am going to make a wildlife pond when we have finished redecorating our kitchen and bathroom.
