Hi Kev, how's it going with the course? I'm still full of envy, college days really are the best:)
Vane was dripping with Sea eagles a few weeks ago, did you you manage to get through to see them?
Hope all is well
Tracey:)

Congratulations Tracey on becoming gran, such a joyous and proud occasion :)
That is so cool about all the course you have done, should be very proud of your achievements, It's always enriching furthering ones educations, especially when out of education for so long as in my case.
The course I'm doing is truly wicked, absolutely having heaps of fun (well other than the masses of homework) That's me completed block 1, glad it's over as no more, communications, IT and First aid in block 2 just pure conservation ^ ^
Will you make the RSPB xmas bash? going to try making it, but not sure yet..

Kev, I'm really chuffed re your course. I went to Elmwood and did an HNC in amenity horticulture, before that I did a course (ONC) on Conservation and rural eccology at Perth College, I loved it, but there wasn't any follow up to it, which was why I switched to Elmwood. Afrer Elmwood I went back to Perth College and did an HND in Leisure Management, which was a bit too sprort orientated for me - yawn!!:). I know that land management courses are good re job market. I wish I was doing the course that you are doing, it will be fascinating. I know your time will be swallowed up with study, but try and squeeze in what ever voluntary work you can at Vane and don't forget SNH, they do some reallly interesting work re suveys on all manner of things.
Wishing you all the very best Kev:)

Thats brilliant you were back at Vane once you go back it feels so homely again and yep so many new faces there its fantastic as they are all cool, I missed the last party I just had too much work on.
I'm doing Conservation (Habitat management) course at Elmwood Cupar, possibly the best decision i've ever made and hopefully get a career as a Ranger/warden in the distant future :)
Oh a birthing partner, such a wonderful occasion, but yes very nerve-wracking as well.
Yeah hopefully we can meet up at Vane for a chat soon would be cool ^ ^

Yep, I was back at Vane last week for lunch with Sadie (Colin's partner) and I was at the last party - all good and really nice to catch up again. A lot of new faces:) It felt brilliant to be back again. There are some lovely folk at Vane and I do miss them, so it was good to see everyone again.
What course are you doing Kev? I know what you mean about getting use to to college, but once you get into the swing of it, it's fantastic.
I put my notice in with my last job, one of the reasons for doing so is that my daughter is due to give birth very soon and as her partner is based near Poole, he might not make it in time for the birth, so I have been told by said daughter that I am to be her birthing partner. Nervous?!! You have no idea and it's not even as if I'll be going through the pain!!
Anyway, hope to see you soon and hope all goes well with college:)

Hi Tracey
Been such a long time since I've browsed WaB, how have you been? I've not been at Vane for such a long time, what with college taking up my entire time, I've been 20 years out of education and it was a major shock getting back to basics especially having so many blooming assignments to do.
Did you manage to get back to Vane? I wouldn't feel guilty if you haven't as we all encounter situations which prevent us from doing things, as I said I haven't been for some time. since around the beginning of august, I'm sure we are both missed :)

Sorry for not responding earlier. A Sea eagle!!! You lucky so and so!!! At Vane Farm as well, how brilliant!! Am I full of envy? Oh yes!!!:) I haven't had much time to get my Vane fix, what with mum and work!! I feel awful, I'm suppose to be doing my breeding bird survey......! I'll have to update the breeding survey map and get on with it ASAP. I'll have to speak to Chris and see if he can get the vols to help out re this. I don't know if I should ask Chris to get someone else to take over with the nest box survey, it would break my heart, but I just feel that I am not doing it justice recently.

Heya tracey, really good to hear from you..
I am still in the loop and it'd been a topsy turvy few weeks, especially the predation level of Lapwing nest which has been sadly very high, out of 6 nest 4 have already been predated by Crows..
On the plus side yesterday was a fantastic day, I spotted something large in the sky above the Loch at first I just thought it was a Buzzard but on closer inspection it turned out to be a Sea Eagle and it was being harrassed by 2 Gulls which looked tiny, I was the only RSPB guy who saw it so obviously eeryone else was very skeptical but thankful a gentleman had taken a picture so I was very happy.
Also an Osprey paid a visit and even more remarkable was it dived into one of the smallish pools outside hide 2 & got quite a large fish..
Hope your well and your finding time to relax and enjoy the fantastic weather we are having :)
