I keep an excel document on my desktop, and then add to it every time I see something new, then at the end of the year I send it in. See the following link to your records office. They have an excel sheet you can fill in (near the end of the page). Hope this helps... it's really important to send your records in (it could just save a favourite field or wood from destruction in the future!): Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre - Your Records
Oh dear there's another one to add to my list :) That looks really great - and a good place for my little sisters to run around as well!! (I'm limited to where I can go because of them or how long we can stay :()
Hey, thanks for the friend request!! I did know about Plantlife in Salisbury, in fact I walk past their HQ every day on my way to school :) I'll ask about Badbury rings for next summer although I have a whole list of places to go already - Noar hill, hawkley warren, chappetts copse, galley down wood etc etc - been to any of those? :) Other than gtr butterflys what other orchids are there?
Just in case you didn't already know, did you know that Plantlife (Plantlife is the only charity working solely to protect Britain’s wild flowers and plants, fungi and lichens, and the habitats in which they are found) is based in Salisbury. I would have thought it would be well worth getting in contact with them (if you haven't already done so). They may even organise some local events! Jane
Hi Leifus. I used to ride (horses) at Farley as a teenager, we used to go through Bentley Wood. Unfortunately I don't really know that area in enough detail for wildflowers. I know where there are helleborines near to me now (see my blog entry on them)
but that isn't really going to help you! However, you might like to try and persuade your parents to take you to Badbury Rings (near to these orchids), which has some wonderful orchids early in the summer and great butterflys (see link here for information). Wish I could be more help! If you and your family are ever down this way... let me know. Jane
Hey thanks!! Yeah im 7 miles outside Salisbury. I live right next to Bentley Wood (dont know if youve heard of it but its very good (famous for purple emps)) and spend a lot of time in there. I havent explored around stonehenge or the river in the woodford valley but I'll have a look when I've got time (and transport) so thanks!! Do you remember anywhere good for helleborines by any chance? I found the green-flowered helleborines at Langford Lakes and broad-leaved ones at B.Wood but anywhere else? Thanks
