- 01-05-2012 06:38 AM - permalinkDeb LondonHi Mike,
It's good news to hear that she is eating better. Long may that continue.
The weather here is terrible. I'm not really seeing many birds at all at the moment. It wasn't too bad yesterday, managed to see a few butterflies, but I can't be bothered to go to the hide to look for birds today as I won't see much.
I don't think I've ever seen a water vole. Lucky you!
I think I'll look for Grasshopper Warblers this year as there is a place near here where I might see them. I didn't ask the bloke whereabouts I would be likely to hear one, so I hope I bump into him again. The valley is large and unknown to me, but I think he keeps to the footpaths, so that narrows it down.
Catch you later.
Deb - 23-04-2012 05:53 AM - permalinkDeb LondonOh, sorry Mike. I hope they find out what's wrong with her soon. :-(
Wow, a Chough! Fantastic! And I don't think I've ever seen a normal Guillemot, let alone a Black.
Had an Orange Tip in the garden yesterday - I've been growing the larval food plant since last year, so I am hopeful, but not expecting, as this was a single male. I have no idea how long it takes to establish a colony.
Good luck for Thursday, fingers crossed. - 14-04-2012 06:44 PM - permalinkDeb LondonYes, I have no idea why, but I really do love butterflies. A birder told me that many others (like himself) get into butterflies in the quiet summer months.
Fingers crossed for your cat. They can be very resilient. My "girl" has had a few near misses, but apart from being a bit of a head-case, she is in good health, if a little on the fat side. I managed to get her weight down recently, but fed her Whiskas for a week and didn't realise it had more calories.
When they are sick it's so stressful, but we're in it for better, for worse. No choice but to do what we can for them, and hopefully they'll take it from there.
Seeing Ring Ouzels in the hills was one of the best birding moments of my youth. Glad you had fun. :-D - 14-04-2012 05:41 PM - permalinkDeb LondonHow is your cat?
- 11-04-2012 09:12 AM - permalinkDeb LondonI don't know about the list thing. I love to add to my "UK life list", but now the butterflies are coming out I am less keen on my year list. I will continue with a list in the first few months of each year, especially to see how many species I can see on the 1 st of January, as that was a lot of fun. But I'm not so senile that I feel I need to see a Ring Ouzel (or whatever) every year. I can remember the one I saw the year before, and if I saw something in the last few days of December, I don't feel I need to travel back to see it in January, just for a tick. Target species for the next few years are one that I've never seen - Wood Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Black Grouse, Black Redstart etc. There are a couple of Wildfowl I'd like to see too. But I'm in no rush (though thrilled to find out that a Wood Warbler could well pass through here - will be looking out for the chance to see something like that). Anyway, I want my life list to at least 150 by next spring. :-D

Good luck with your puss - hope she gets sorted really quickly. Let me know how it goes at the vets.
Hope you catch that person doing the shooting. How horrible for the grebe!
And hope you get out to Anglesey soon - lovely place.
Deb
PS I couldn't fit all the text into my message - see pt 2. - 18-02-2012 04:19 AM - permalinkDeb LondonHi Mike,
YES! LOL
WAB doesn't have an appropriate regional section for a thread like this. Oysters are a very London thing, poorly understood by people away from the city, and even more baffling for the poor beggars that have to use the things! LOL
How are you getting on, with the increased workload and all? - 08-02-2012 08:18 PM - permalinkDeb LondonOMG - you serious birder you! That's A LOT OF GULLS! Ha, ha. :-D
- 08-02-2012 07:41 PM - permalinkDeb LondonWell, good that you have a good contract, but you'll miss the birding of course. 4:30 is blummin' early! Well done again on the gulls. :-D
Thanks for letting me know - take care, chat soon. - 04-02-2012 06:19 PM - permalinkDeb LondonThanks Mike,
I think there must be a certain amount of luck in seeing them. The cold weather today seemed to bring everything close. Hope Terry is lucky soon - it wasn't my first time looking for them so I think perseverance will pay off.
Hope you are managing to say warm.
