- Mike, it was my chum Clive who sent the pictures to me. I thought the first orchid was Broad-leaved Helleborine and asked for the Green-flowered to be confirmed. Clive's favourite ID for that second plant was Narrow-leaved, but it was so out of context that he couldn't believe it possible. There's no chance of that is there?
In any event I'm going to the site tomorrow with Clive & Dorts and will advise you of the exact location once I know it.
Jeff - Mike, the Fragrant Orchids I mentioned were at Llanermynech Rocks under the quarry face at the bottom of a deep dip. About a dozen spikes of Common Fragrant.
Jeff - Thanks Mike, Fly Orchids too at Hopton, I see, and several other DWT reserves nearby.
We'll try and get over therelater this month.
Jeff - Hi Mike, I'm keen to photograph Frog Orchid this year if I can, I've only ever seen one and that was in Wiltshire. We live in Chester and I could do with finding a site nearer home.
You seem to know Shropshire fairly well and the distribution maps seem to suggest Frog Orchid occurs there. Do you have any suggestions where we should be looking please.
I will understand if this is not the type of information which you want to reveal, but it's worth asking.
Thanks
Jeff - Hi Mike, I'm sorry to pick on you to answer this question for me, but can you tell me the convention on naming sites where orchid species can be found. Presumably it's OK to say 'these Marsh Orchids were photographed at Bodeilio' but I guess the situation is more complex with rarities.
For example, I would have liked to see the Fly Orchids there but had no idea where to look. The exact location of that local rarity should not be posted on open forum. It seems to be OK to say it's at Bodeilio but you wouldn't say 'it's ten yards to the west of the gatepost on the public footpath'. Is that the convention?
Finally, if I was interested in going to a certain site for a certain 'special' orchid is there a mechanism whereby members give details of locations or not?
I don't want to get my knuckles rapped for saying the wrong thing.
Jeff - Thank you, Mike

I hope that we communicate to Messenger - 28-10-2010 03:30 PM - permalinkRobert S J SmithYes I completely understand about people needing to trust you before handing out information about sensitive species and I’m already a member of Birdforum and have noticed quite a few Orchid watchers on it.
Thankfully I made quite a few friends who are interested in Orchids and they have helped me greatly on whom to contact regarding certain species of Orchid. I only need to know the location of 4 more orchids but am unsure if they are still recorded in Norfolk.
That’s awesome managing to see all the UK species in a single year congratulations and finally yes sadly you are correct about the Bog Orchids…
All the best,

Cheers for accepting me.
Yes I'm very interested in Orchids and Im planning to see all the species found in Norfolk (23 in total athough I'm unsure if some can still be found in Norfolk) next year or atleast clean up the gapes in my list. The only problem is there are a few orchids I know occur in Norfolk but don't know the site for so any body who could help me would be great...
