- 22-03-2009 07:25 PM - permalinkHedge WitchHi Stinky, there seems to be a disease in our garden that affects them. The first year I was here I was given some - they grew as tall as anything. But subsequent year's efforts have been dismal. So I don't think I'll even bother trying. Are you?

Thanks for the info on the Alder. So when are you going to try abseiling down that cliff? Is Rina going to help? And can I come to watch? - Yes the Alder is native. It often grows near water and burns slowly, so is useful for stopping fires going out overnight. Wikipedia has a list of british native trees. Try and spot them all! There is one where there is only one specimen growing on a cliff in wales.

I think the best solution is to build a large cage structure over your garden with Hoopoe sized holes to allow the parent Hoopoes to come and go. The Eagle will most likely get frustrated and move on to the Bitterns, Corncrakes and White-spotted Bluethroats in my garden.
But don't just take my word for it, why not ask other WABBERS what they'd do.
Is the Alder a native? - 01-03-2009 10:08 AM - permalinkHedge WitchHey Stinky - congrats on the Hoopoe ;-) Tell Mrs S it likes chocolate brownies at tea time.

You are WAB's resident tree expert - what tree is that?
