I made a visit to one of my favourite summer haunts today,mainly to try and get some photographs of Large Heath.On arrival it was very warm,but about 50% cloud cover,but after an hour or two it began to break.My first notable sightings where the above mentioned Large Heaths which where out in very good numbers,with me seeing a minimum of 112 insects,a massive count and the most i have seen in 6 years of visits.Shortly after seeing my first Large Heaths,i came across a young buck Roe Deer,which made...

I travelled over the Humber estuary back to my home county of Yorkshire today,to pay homage to the gorgeous summer plumaged Spotted Sandpiper that had been found the previous afternoon at the superb North Cave Wetlands.After arriving at the unearthly hour of 04.45,i soon located the bird feeding around the islands on Twenty Island Lake and it showed well down to 40 metres,giving great views through the scope.I spent the next 2 and a bit hours watching the bird and it was occasionally chased by the...
