Cheers pal. Any idea on what weight it will carry? I rarely back a National runner with 11 stone plus on. Though if it stays dry it will help horses with a higher weight. I've done well in recent years in the National, with 4 winners out of the last 7 years, including Ballabriggs last year.

Well, I don't bet much really, unless I actually go to the races (perhaps once or twice per year) or in big races like the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Grand National, King George and Derby. I also tend to follow the careers of the big horses like Desert Orchid, Best Mate, Moscow Flyer, Kauto Star and Sea The Stars (who I saw in the flesh in the Juddemont Stakes at York and he is a huge beautiful animal). My interest started when I was a little boy. My granddad was mad on the gee gees, but as his eyesight went her taught me how to read the form so I could pick his horses. Since then, I've never lost my interest really.

There have been a few woodcock sightings in the past week around the plantations by the windsurfers building at Watergrove, and Old Tom's Wood by the western side of the res'. Re' the waxwings, not seen them there since, but had about 20 in Denshaw last Sunday. I've checked for these again as well, without luck alas. Have you seen the numerous buzzards between Junctions 20 and 21 of the M62? The other day there was one at Milnrow and three by Junction 20.

Hi Rossy. Where Drake Street meets Manchester Road there are some offices called St Albans House. Diagonally across the road (towards Manchester Road), by Freehold flats is a tall tree. They where in the top of that. However, just outside St Albans House are a few rowans with berries on. In past 'waxwing winters' they have fed on those rowans before and could well be using them as a food source currently. I had some in New Hey last Sunday as well, but I couldn't find a local berry supply, so they could've been a transient flock. Good luck and let me know how you get on.
