Hi, Rog.
The freindly 10ft. Buck and the 5 and 8 yr. old white bucks are currently around the Bolderwood/Holmhill Inclosure areas but in quite deep cover for most of the day, you have to get quite close to see them. Sat we went back to Brinken many does and bucks to be seen but all now seem to be tollerant of each other and are trying to get together in their single sexed herds.
Thanks for the kind squirrel offer. . unfortunately we shall be taking you up on that offer, its something weve both wanted to do for a long time, Ill keep in touch thankyou.
Hope you've had another great day in the Forest let us know what you saw.
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,
10 foot away! That's starting to get a bit too close for comfort! When we were watching the large white buck last week there was a very loud bellow from another buck very close to us somewhere in the undergrowth and I did wonder what I'd do if he suddenly appeared just a few feet from me.
Weather's still looking good for this Sunday so we're hoping to come over for the day.
Whereabouts in the Forest did you see the bucks?
If you and Linda ever fancy a day's wildlife watching (Red Squirrels?) on the Island but don't want the expense of bringing a car over, we'd be glad to meet you at the ferry and take you round for the day.
Cheers,
Rog

Hi Rog ,
Sounds like a good day, glad you and your wife enjoyed it. We went to a different part of the Forest on Saturday and like you saw 2 White bucks one with does one without, lots of noise and running around. One particular large buck walked straight up to within 10ft.of the tree I was stood against stared for a few seconds then walked off groaning loudly. It was quite disconcerting in the half light.

Hi Rob,
Yes, had a good day in the Forest last Friday with my wife. We went down to the meadow by the hide where you took us the previous Sunday, and saw a buck with a damaged antler and his does in the meadow. We went off to the left following the river into Brinken Wood and heard and saw several other bucks. Then we came across the large white buck that Keith mentioned as having lost a rut a few days previous. He must have had some success since then as he had at least 3 does with him. Got loads of video of him, quite close up. Lots of roaring and stamping, no actual clashes. Also saw several large pigs with piglets foraging.
After lunch we headed for Ober heath and met the ranger by Aldridgehill cottage. He was in better mood this time, laughing and joking with us! Apparently there had been a pony drift about an hour earlier and all the reds had gone off into the woods to the west. We wandered along the edge of Aldridgehill inclosure and a bit later a large 12 point stag came wandering across the heath and laid down in the middle. No action, but some good views and footage.
We left Blackwater carpark in the dark and as we were driving by Whitefield moor a red stag and 15 hinds walked across the road in front of us. Good end to a great day out, all thanks to you and Linda for pointing us in the right direction.
If the weather's ok we'll probably head over there again this Sunday.
Cheers,
Rog
