Great - glad you like it. Did you see the whole song. I love the "I once knew a maid ...." verse although in the version I knew he "went a-rock climbing instead". Ewan MacColl, bit of a hero of the socialist outdoor types (i.e. my Dad and so passed on to me). Also wrote "Dirty Old Town" if you know it. Father of Kirsty. Anyway, best get round the sheep again!

Ah, you may be gently taking the mickey here Poe, as indeed I was trying to do of Foxy with his in-depth discussion of sleeping mats (The heather has oft been my bed etc). That's not to say I don't know the value of a good mat as a keen backpacker myself. The quote is from the Manchester Rambler by Ewan Macoll and here it is in full. It relates to the 1930s Kinder Trespass.

Fields we grazed up to Jan. are greening up nicely, guess we're generally warmer here near South Coast.......I'm trying to get into 'Treehouse', can't seem to find it. Any ideas ?..Posie..

I know the feeling re horses and laminitis. It seems like a constant worry. My old mare actually got it right at the end of winter and she was a skinny anglo-arab. But I guess it was age-related. Poor thing is dead now and I no longer ride - don't really want to.

We have loads of ground - 40ac or thereabouts but its just been too cold to grow grass as yet. Over the last few years we could have relied on a little bit of winter growth. Not this time though. The ground is frozen again today, but then we do go from 800 - 1100 ft altitude. What sort of lunatics lamb in Feb under these conditions?!

Ahh thats great news John .Next door to me have 11 miniature ewes due to lamb from end of the month, ewes are first-timers, and so are the owners,(Never put a beginner with a beginner !) HeyHo. So I could very likely get involved there, for my sins ! Ref grass, pity you weren't nearer to us, we got grass coming out of our ears, about 25 acres totally ungrazed since hay crop taken last mid-summer, and a few acres that was grazed last autumn. Too much for my horses as they are prone to laminitis if on too much grass. also one double paddock has got 2 new mobile 12'x12' field shelters. Anyway, you're not in this area, so that's that. Pity though, could just see your beautiful sheep grazing on our beautiful grass. Annoying thing is my horses have had about £1250 worth of hay through the winter this year, but I find it easier to regulate their intake of 'calories' when mostly on hay, and you can soon run up big bills at the vet if they get laminitis.....Posie

There you go - told you I needed some tips. Came in at 9.30am for a cup of tea and check WAB, back out at 10.10am and the ewe had had 3 little lambs all on her own, plop, plop plop. 2 boys and a girl. And I got up 4 times last night to check her in case she got into trouble. Flipping sheep!!!

Thanks Posie. No telly but will try to catch it on the iPlayer. I probably need a few tips. Lambing seems to be going on forever this year. I'm waiting for a ewe carrying triplets to start today - they are always in a tangle so I'm expecting a full James Heriot moment - you know? Wish we had some grass for them to eat.
