We have experienced heavy rain for the last three days and although the sun shines as I write this on Friday morning, bad news is breaking about the aftermath. South Lakes has many closed roads making it difficult to get around. We’re not so bad here but look out over fields covered in water. If you log on to BBC Radio Cumbria or Lakeland FM you will be able to see images of the situation.

There’s a policeman lost in Workington and two bridges have been washed away in the northwest of the county. Much of the damage around Kendal is to developments on the River Kent’s flood plain unfortunately.

I might pop down to Newby Bridge later and have a look at the River Leven as it leaves Windermere. I’ll post an image or two if poss. Thanks for your message and concern. Apologies – this is a blanket message to all.

All OK here thanks, it blew good and proper - felt like 100mph! Went over to the beach to see some rather large waves crashing in. Luckily no storm damage to us or the house!

    Hi Pauline.

Just dropped by to see how you are doing, then saw your message below :( You know you can talk to me! I have had an epic year - as you know. Scott leaving, my Mum's death, my bro and sis ostracising me....friends letting me down....but I am still here! (Gawd bless Prozac, lmao!!) Pm me if you like....

Take good care, because you are one special lady!

Things been a little rocky here of late ..... the weather has been depressing ..... my mothers condition is depressing ........ rowing with the husband is depressing ....... its just been exexexo on all fronts - life is like that sometimes - no real disasters - just rubbish and thats being polite! Then with nothing to photograph except a few hard won fungi each week I begain to despair that I had lost the ability to use the camera and even the wit to do it ........ hang on while I get out the birch twigs and give myself a thrashing!! Then yesterday at Leighton Moss everything came right and I got pics of bearded tits after all these years ..... did wonders for my flagging soul ...... I suppose the message really is to just keep going even when nothing is happening or all is going wrong ...... just keep going - keep looking forward....

Ah right, thanks Pauline, its a great effect I must say. I use aperture 2 for my raw conversions and all my adjusting, and that is it. If I can't do it in there, it doesn't get done..lol.Tho I think perhaps its about time I started looking for something to do those little extra little things that can make a difference. I also like the idea of putting a signature to my pics so I may well take a look at paint shop.

Hi Pauline..Re the fox shot, I understand what you are saying about frames not being allowed, this is after all a wildlife website not a photographic site. That said, I really like the fox shot, the framing combined with the shallow depth of field leaves the viewer with the feeling the fox is coming right out of the picture. Its a really brilliant shot.

By the way. Can I ask you what software do you use for that particular framing effect? and more importantly is it available for a mac ?
