It won't be anytime soon and esp not after todays forecast! I can imagine exactly how it looks tho - I well remember 1962/3 with the school closed and freedom for a week at least - walking from Duddon Avenue over to Tockholes, up the Tower, and somehow one day getting quite lost for a few hours heading right below the golf house and heading towards Blackburn ......... I was just 10 years old and out all day every day on my own from first thing till dark!!

Hi Pauline, just seen your message. A (belated) happy new year to you too. Give me a shout when you are visiting Sunnyhurst and I'll gladly accompany you for a wander. (Everything is well and truly frozen solid at the mo - but some nice landscape pics. to be had in the right weather conditions).
Best regards, Mike.

Yes it was well met and quite funny plus I was expecting to see you even if you hadn't read your emails first - I just sort of felt that you would be around! Joan was whispering 'its him - it must be him - there won't be two with all that gear'!!!! You went on and had some good stuff. We more or less went down after the bolete, across and up and back along Spine Kop. I picked my mam up at just gone 5pm which was a bit naughty of me ...... I did photograph some porcelain but not had chance to sort thro them yet - I concentrated on the view pics I'd taken - full of memories from childhood!

Hi Pauline, I hadn't seen your e-mail, so it was literally pure chance that we met up. You must have thought it strange that this chap was looking rather intently at you. - It was one of those occasions where I was thinking "do I know that person" - Then the penny finally dropped!!
Nice to have finally met you. Hope we get chance to have a proper fungi hunt sometime.
I know what you mean about that banking, it's steeper than it looks and very slippery once you get on it.
Best regards,
Mike.

Nice to bump into you today LL a pity neither of us had time to ramble and natter some more! I found the bolete ?erythropus? I need to look them all up and have a think - I'm so rusty! It was blueing and blackening but the red dots on the stipe were very obvious! Not seen one for years - so thanks for that! Don't hink any of my pics of it turned out - I couldn't get the light behind me without moving it a good way or climbing the banking - the latter isn't a good idea these days - I can get up but getting down is ungainly and very often a over t and one of these days I will break something - the camera or old bones or both!! See you sometime.
Regards Pauline

Hello Pauline, I know that Christmas wishes will be the last thing on your mind at the minute, but keep your chin up. You are in our thoughts. So have the best Christmas and New Year that circumstances will allow.
Best regards
Mike.

Well, at least you're not missing much weather wise. - Things might start to buck up by the time you're feeling more your normal self. Yes the proper old cough candy is very nice. I think the stuff we got from Botany Bay might just have been on the shelf too long. And liquorish root used to be one old penny a stick - not 50p like today!!
Regards
Mike.

Hi Pauline, Hope the flu's better. I was thinking of you earlier - we went to Botany Bay and ended up getting some coltsfoot rock & liquorish root at the traditional sweetshop in there. Yum. (We also got some old style cough candy - but it tastes dire Yuk).
Regards
Mike.

Old Man of the Woods! (Better keep quiet or Chris & Nick might hear me using the common name - beginner's affinity I'm afraid). I'm still very happy to find common stuff let alone the rarities. (But I did love the pink one you recently found - can't remember what you called it). Can't believe this - 3 o'clock and the sun's come out. It'll be dark in an hour. Another day of my life falls foul of the weather. Arggh!.
Regards
Mike.
