You do get hungry this weather saying just downed 2 mince pies the dried fruit plays hell but what can you do when they a in kitchen looking at you.
Hope the pains go away for you.
I dread Christmas all the nice things like nuts, pigs in jackets, crisps, sausage rolls, and mince pies are out, but they wont be I will just suffer then regret it after.

Yes thats it exactly ... your mouth waters at delicious cooking smells and then control is lost and down it goes, then an hour or two later you begin to think 'Now was that such a good idea?' ... And for days or weeks after your bowel is unhappy and lets you know it ... I've had some very sharp pains on the right side of my tummy - sudden and vicious with no warning - I'm glad they don;t get going - that they are only brief stabbing pains. I took Dulcolax yesterday to get myself empty and had no pain since ... but its cold weather and I want to EAT!!!!!

I am getting better at manoeuvring on the tripod I take a lot of insects in summer so will have a play about and see how they turn out as I cant get the stability I really need if I hand hold..
Health wise I was my own fault as I ate some basil and squash and it refused to go through the narrowing in my bowel so I was sick all night.
I am like you and have no will power if I stuck to a liquid diet I would be fine but when there is lovely food on offer its impossible to refuse.
Glad you managed to eat lots and get away with it its like a bloody time bomb you eat something and wait to see the consequence lol
take care E x

Hi Elaine I thought I had answered this one but obviously not - I'm going doolally! How are you and the little health issue?? I've had twinges but don;t deserve sympathy at all cos I;ve had all sorts of stuff while on my own at the caravan a few days ago .... chocolate, ice cream Mars, a ginger cookie the size of a dinner plate, and got up to four lumps in my morning coffee - I have no control over sweet stuff - I can only control it if I break the craving and have none - haaving a little leads to having a lot given a few short weeks .... I don't use the tripod for insects that are moving - that is when I hand hold and turn the speed up to compensate or use a bit of flash - tho this usually blows the subject when in macro. Even that fancy ring flash I got I haven't had time to practice with and probably won't use again till fungi time next year! Tho I think it will be useful for dragonflies if I can get used to it!

Hi Pauline,
just a quick question how do you get birds or things like insects with a tripod if they are moving I ended up picking the tripod up and holding it and realised this is defeating the object.]
I have not had chance to try my new one yet had a little health issue lol
Hows your health atm.

Can't wait till my new lens gets here its due from the 3rd Dec, I will be practising before that comes though.
I will try the tripod too but not sure where yet the birds don't come near me in the garden if they see me they disappear for hours.
I am glad I got the smaller tripod as even this is heavier and a lot more stable than the ones I have atm.
Its a professional looking one and very good quality its lovely it goes quite low too so great for macro.
I have wrote all the tips down and will keep them with the camera so I can have a look and check the situation.
We normally take the dog out to a country park at the weekends so I will take the tripod then and if it stops raining I will try it in the garden on something.

That tripod willl revolutionise your photography - you will be surprised at how much sharper things will be if you make sure you use it. Hand-held is a new state for me - I've been a devotee of tripods for years in all situations. Going down to a smaller lens means I can wave the camera about - in good light only - and still get sharp results - if I had put it on the tripod at Gigrin I would have got even sharper results. And I forgot to turn the stabiliser off too - I've heard it recommeneded that it is turned off when the light is good for flight shots they say its not needed. Of course November is the wrong month for wanting bright light and practice - its like baying for the moon it aint likely to happen!!!

LOL! I've had lenses out of bathroom and bedroom windows when new and not able to get out to try properly! Use One Shot for a posed or static bird - one singing on a post that sort of thing. A1 focus stops when the subject stops and moves to follow it next time it moves (I think?!) Ok for birds that run then stop! and A1 Servo is continuous hunting and searching for focus best for flight where movemment is continuous.

Wow thank you P, I have been looking at a church for ages and never know how I am going to photograph it..
I have written those notes down so next time I am out I will take a lot of test shots just to see the results I am getting on what settings.
It will all come naturally one day I hope..
On the auto focus there are three settings..one shot, AI focus and AI servo..
What would you recommend.
My tripod came yesterday and its not stopped raining since but I can poke the camera out of the bathroom window and shoot some birds on the bird table so will have a go tomorrow.
Thank you very much..xx

Ok as an 'aide memoire' try a little card with these on: Colourful scene - change to vivid - Blue Scene - change to Sunlight - Autumn colours, fungi, brown birds, brown animals - change to Cloudy. Check your results on the rear screen as you go and if not sure and there is time try both and compare later on the comp until you get a feel for what will work and what won;t. New buildings lots of glass prob best on sunny - old buildings warm tones - turn to cloudy etc. Judge by eye the scene you are thinking of taking and then get the camera to represent it as faithfully as your eyes saw it! Have fun!
