Chris did you send me youir proper email addy? I have prepped the map and directions foro the broomrape. Pm with your email and apologies if you are doing this for a second time - there are a lot of Chris's in my address book and I'm not exactly sure who is who anymore (thats what you get for 79 'friends' isn;t it?!! Confuseddotcom or wot?!)

I was wondering what the 79 friends was about then I realised that was my list!! I'm collecting people!!! Quite a few of those I haven't heard from or seen on wab in over a year ... I perhaps should 'break' the friendships but I don;t like to do that so will leave them a little bit longer just in case someone comes back on and looks me up ....

Right make sure you do - it won;t take me long actually there is nothing to finding the spot its so easy its laughable - just remind me again nearer the time - it was June and the flower spikes were half done - tho I think it probably grows like that - you perhaps never see a full spike the bottom one's will always be dying off? I remember it tho - I came home from the isles and the Cairngorms on the Thurs, spent Friday downloading, Sat Gracie and I dashed off to find the broomrape - bingo and a gorgeous day, more downloading and editing etc on Sun and Mon morning at 9.30am I was dialling 999 and going to A&E and that was the start of finding out I had severe diverticulitis ......... such is life!

There is no rush on the broomrape Pauline, just give me the details whenever you get chance. Unfortunately with having two young kids I can rarely make long term commitments to anything these days and who knows, something might get in the way of me going, but it is certainly my intention to see it this summer. And, for me being so close to the M62, it shouldn't take me that long to bomb up there. But, I shall certainly nag you nearer the time for directions if you haven't sent them beforehand!
Many thanks, Chris
p.s, is 79 friends a WAB record?

Thankies for the April confirmation - I'd looked at my pics and seen that I;d posted at the end of March (which I can't do this year) but can do the first week in April so thats all good news. Do you want me to prepare and send directions for the TB? It was very straightforward - Gracie and I could have been on our way home 20 mins after arriving (well we couldn't cos once I get at ground level with the camera I take a lot of shots of something I am unlikely to see again)! but I'm just showing how easy it was! Being an orchid type I would expect if no-ones pinched it or grubbed up the ground that it will still be in exactly the same spot! Let me know and I will (eventually) make a start of directions - mither me and remind me if I forget - I'm up to my ears at the min and still trying to soldier thro and make time for wildlife and photography!!!

Howdo Pauline. Certainly, if I am up that way I'll let you know if I see it. However, I've always found it to be extremely reliable in its flowering and I'd be really surprised if you went up say in the second to third week in April and it wasn't out. In fact I'd be astounded (watch me fall flat on my face now!)!
It's funny that you have asked me about this as recently I have a had a bit of a yearning to see thistle broomrape and I know from your photos that you know where it is. The only info' I have for it is some sketchy directions for a site near Aberford. So if during the flowering season my missus stamps my pass book, I might dash over and would probably need some further details from you.
Anyway, if I can be of further assistance don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Chris - hope all well with you and yours? I'm being cheeky now (if you don't ask you don;t get!) but if you are out and about in the hills anytime soon and you spot the Purple Saxifrage flowering can you give me a heads up please? I've promised to take Gracie to Pen-y-ghent so she can see them for herself - however due to our advancing years we don't want to walk all that way if its not yet out!! Thanks for any help you can manage! I'm going to ask Ken as well as you both were very helpful last year in getting me to see it for the first time.
Regards, Pauline

Cheers Pauline. With such birthday credentials I expect him to become a photographer of some distinction! At the moment he's a cryer of some distinction alas.
