I understand the denial only too well. I used to remind myself that it was simply there as a defence mechanism. Very, very strange woolly feeling. It's unnervng and it can help if you set yourself a few quiet moments regularly and allow yourslf to think about what is happening, to remember and to weep. You don't want that pressure cooker to blow all at once. Let it out slowly. Even if it means you walk around with red eyes each morning.

Big hug Pauline. We have either all been there, or will all be there. xxx

A bleak day today - we all have them I know ......... My peculiar sense of timing and kind of intuition took me to see mam this morning. I hadn't been there more than 10 mins when she had some sort of fit/siezure. She is back in the care home tonight after tests etc at the hospital (which was in chaos with drunks, druggies and various broken bones...) The tests have found nothing more than a urine infection everything else was normal - well normal for an 80 year old. I finally got back home gone 7.30pm and had my tea at 9pm (which his nibs lovingly cooked). To cap this day I've had news of the death of a pen friend who was diagnosed with Alzhiemers some years ago. We met rarely cos we were both so busy but we used to write to each other and discuss fungi findings and holiday destinations and species noted. Another learned light has gone out.....

    Hi Pauline,

I saw on one of your threads that you'd like to see White-faced Darters, I know of a site for them up here where you can park about 30 metres from the pond. Mid to late June is the best time, I also know a site for Northern Emerald.

I didn't get out today, still feeling a bit rough and it was snowing. We booked the cottage that you recommended on Uist, it's the last week in May that we're going, so I'll be grateful for any info on where to go.

    Regards, Audrey.

    Hi Pauline,

I'm getting over a head cold, but apart from that we are both well, hope you two are as well. We've had over two feet of snow, but it has compressed quite a bit since a warmer spell on Sunday. Most of the main roads are passable with care, but same as last winter, nowhere to park.

We had a couple of Bramblings in the garden today, but I didn't get any pics, my constant sneezing would have scared them of, and the light was very flat.

I'm hoping to get out on Saturday and have a look for a group of Lesser Redpolls that often feed in the local woods in winter, and I once saw a Stoat in ermine up there so might be lucky.

I'm really looking forward to my holiday on Uist next year, the cottage is booked, I've just got to book the ferry once the 2011 timetable comes out.

Hope you sort out your gremlins, nasty little blighters.

    Regards, Audrey

Thought I better mention that the problems staying on wab (it keeps punching me off - usually when I'm in the middle of answering someone - really annoying!) so annoying that its keeping me from coming on here ........ I have a little think and ask myself if I can put up with its gremlins and the answer keeps coming back no - not tonight - so if anyone was wondering this is why I've not been in as much as I would usually and nowhere near as much as I would like to ........

Hi Pauline, thanks for your comments on my BT photos, really appreciated.
Now I just need to save up for a canon lens (I don't actually own one), preferably a 400 prime would be nice.
I hope you and Ian are both well?
See you on the boards my friend :-)

Hiya. Thanks for the compliment about my profile page. Glad to hear you are ok at the mo'. Getting out amongst it really depends on my frame of mind each day. Some good , some bad. You know how it goes. My tummy's been having stabbing pains today so tomorrow I'll ring & see if I can get the outpatients appt' brought forward from Dec' 23rd. Knowing my luck, they'll take me back in again & I don't want that! Take care, catchup soon. x

I live South Pennines, near Hollingworth Lake. I know what you mean about heading up to the coast though...we used to go most weekends, now we venture up to the lakes at every op. or the Yorkshire Dales, around Grassington, it's only an hour from here......seen lots of little owls up there amongst other things:-))

It's a pleasure to accept a new friend, especially one with all your knowledge !! :-)) I think the farm was called Hollins farm, it was really close to the "Knott", down a wiggly lane, so quiet and lovely, and a 5min stroll to the sea, there was a big posh static van site you had to walk thru to get to beach, with amazing statics with veranda's and gardens....... Lovely spot. Been up Warland Moor today, do you every get over this way much as Leigh isn't too far away....?
