(part 2)The decision is therefore to carry on with the successful clinical trial and should the inevitable re-match, hopefully after a long period in training for Goliath to attempt another shot at the title in a future fight and coincidentally rest and recuperation for me, then there are several very attractive options available. Though sadly the incurable status has not been reversed and an operation is still out of the question. In a funny sort of way I am pleased with that situation as wielding the surgical knife does seem to stir up a whole hornets’ nest in many cases and I am not sure I would want to risk that having as many mets, even though now weakened, lurking around my body.

Thank you so much Pauline and I am delighted to say that I have just arrived home after celebrating with Geraldine at our favourite Italian restaurant in Fleet: Yesterday I had a rescheduled (because of getting stranded in Spain) CT scan in preparation for the midterm review in clinic today with the chief oncologist running the Real 3 trial. They rushed through the results of yesterday's bloods and scan in time for today's meeting and I am happy to report that they showed that without a shadow of doubt I have won the first fight with Goliath, who is down but not out after a technical knock out in my favour. His seconds and minions are also lesser entities now that the 3 months of chemo have taken their toll without, I hasten to add, hampering my health too much by the side effects. (part 2 to follow)

Mam has had another attack today: these attacks are not typical of either fits or seizures and everyone (including mam) are very confused as to what is going on. We didn't go to A&E this time but asked for a Drs visit instead ...... so we shall see how that goes ...... and assume that mam may be going to suffer these 'funny turns' on a regular basis or until someone works out what is happening: her blood pressure and pulse rate were again today normal for an 80 year old. I've scoured the internet tonight for side effects from the drugs she has been out on but can't find anything that matches what is happening. Tis a puzzle.

Thanks Pauline. I said on my 2007 crossing, that would be the last time, due to a bad bout of Chicken Pox, which took many months to recover from. But, I just love the Coast to Coast and meeting other walkers doing it. Should be interesting doing from east to west, one thing to bear in mind is the wind direction, but that's the gamble.

Hi Pauline-hows things with you.Have not long come in from shopping-eeeek hate this time of year,roads,pavements and shops busy,busy,busy!!!! Still got a few more xmas presssies-now eating a thorntons choccy bar:)

I'm so pleased that you told me this, Pauline. We'll stand down from red to amber now then. ;-)

Just waiting for the OH to get up, then we can go and do a spot of birdingwatching (birding it's called these days,but I'm an old-fashioned kinda girl sometimes). Then I think we have a day planned with DIY, shopping and other boring stuff.

She will sometimes forget. And then she will get better again and remember. It's ups and downs. It's horrible. Actually it's a bit of a nightmare. If someone had explained to me when I was younger just how things would turn out with some members of my family, I wouldn't have believed them. And yes, sometimes it is down to a urine infection. How scary is that?
But she can get better from this. God willing.

Mam very confused again today - hopefully only as a result of the supposed urine infection she has. She was very awake and lively tho and kept jumping up and asking what we were doing next and wanting me to take her out which in these conditions of cold and ice I'm not willing to do. Neither do I feel confident about bringing her home to my house - tho I'm just as capable of sending for an ambulance 999 as the home care staff - but I haven't the nerve to be alone with her and risk me having to deal with another fit/seizure. She wanted to know why when she was married to me she didn't live with me ............ it took a while to get her to reason that I was her daughter not her husband - I can understand her confusion tho as I look uncannily like my dad and got to looking even more so as I age and put more weight on.... I dread the day approaching when she doesn't know who I am .......... it seems to be approaching fast at the moment ......

Ha, ha, I do that, but it's often a boring book about ecology so I don't feel I've missed out.

Chin up m'dear. There are certain things you can do nothing about. And all the worrying serves to remind us how precious they are, even when they are being a little cantankerous.

Sweetheart, it is indeed. :-( Not a nice club though. But the powers that be seem to think it is a necessity that most adults join it.
