Have a brilliant Christmas and a great New Year!
Take care,
Jason - No worries h. You've every right to be scratchy if you've just lost your dad - mine died 18months ago, so been there/still there. Would be great to see the pics Ronja took - even if blurry - would be good to have a link to the Austria site too. (It's certainly not too late to submit a record to the British Rare Birds Committee, especially as you have photo evidence - it's always good to get these rarities on record.)
- Hi Picidae, I didn't mean to sound quite so abrupt, Dad died Friday and I'm a little 'scratchy' sorry. I meant to say that I didn't know of any photo's until Ronja re-visited about 45 days later and she had mentioned it to friends and they said about reporting it to a Birders site in Austria, so when she got here we did. Sorry, we uploaded direct to the site and it was Rona's camera. The shot was a bit fuzzy anyway. I shall be off back home soonish so if she still has the shot I'll post it as a goodbye present.

Also, just read your VMs. I'm quite offended by What Mr B has written here, and quite shocked. Did you report this? - Hi Ash
Not on HH but in Hamstead itself bizzarely. I know they breed up there but my Gran died about 10 years ago and that was the last time I went birding on HH! The only pointers I can give you is as follows:
1. Target the ancient woodland area
2. Find the old oak trees
3. Drumming peaks March/April and starts to drop off in May, so time visit accordingly if possible
4. Track down all woodpecker drumming you hear. Lesser Spots is longer than Greater and more evenly dispersed. Often repeated very shortly afterwards. They often make a Kestrel like sound when calling.
5. Search on the outer higher branches of old oaks, they usually are feeding on the underneath of the branch
6. Early dawn is probably the best chance of seeing them - Hi P, Have you personally seen Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers on Hampstead Heath? I would be more than just pleasantly surprised to spot my first one, if you get my meaning. But so far nothing. Any pointers gratefully received. A

Ouchhhhh... you poor thing! :(
I hope the tablets kick-in soon. At least you will get some time off work for good behaviour! Get well soon, Pic.
Take care,
Jason
