I was all geared up for a rather damp foray. The waterproofs were to make their first appearance for a while, and it was only when I awoke early on the morning of the foray, that I realised I'd be safe leaving them at home. We couldn't have been more fortunate in that it wasn't cold outside, but rather pleasantly warm, with an accompanying breeze.

After a short four mile drive, we knew when we had reached the destination as J.P put his hazard warning lights on and pulled over on the left side of the road to park. We got out and immediately starting strolling towards the sign 'Public Footpath' which led away from the roads, house and any other civilisation and made our way down a gravel road full of deep puddles. Spontaneity is a great thing. What would have been a day inside alone, turned into a day of wonderful walking, good company and a handful of nice finds.
I awoke at about 8.15 ready for my 9 o'clock rendezvous with David. Obviously I had set the alarm early to make sure I had time for a shower and of course, a cup of Earl Grey to get me wide eyed. After checking that camera gear was all present, correct and charged, I left the house and headed towards the infamous 'Waitrose car park'...

We'd been rather excited about this trip ever since it had been announced. New terrain is always pretty exciting, especially when the terrain is so variable throughout the forest. Not only was the excitement reserved for what we might find today, it was reserved for the thought scanning the area for patches to revisit in the Autumn months when the fungi season is in full swing. I had prepared my camera equipment the previous evening, mainly so I could get a little bit more sleep in the morning rather...
