Yep, it's amazing what you can see just by siiting down for a while, the wildlife seem to accept you. I think it's the walking upright that scares them.
I know wht you mean, it's great having friends and company but it's good to get off on your own for a day. I used to fly fish regularly and loved the solitude but became more interested in the surroundings rather than the fishing and missed more fish than I caught through being distracted by a deer or a Fox.
