We ended up stranded on the M4 during the mudslide and all major roads to our house were under water but luckily we weren't directly affected. Makes me glad I live on a hill - if our house flooded the whole of Reading would be under!
It's horrible, there were floods here a couple of years ago that seemed bad to us but were nothing compared to those at the moment, it must be terrifying for people. Thanks for pointing me to Alan's thread.....
We have experienced heavy rain for the last three days and although the sun shines as I write this on Friday morning, bad news is breaking about the aftermath. South Lakes has many closed roads making it difficult to get around. We’re not so bad here but look out over fields covered in water. If you log on to BBC Radio Cumbria or Lakeland FM you will be able to see images of the situation.
There’s a policeman lost in Workington and two bridges have been washed away in the northwest of the county. Much of the damage around Kendal is to developments on the River Kent’s flood plain unfortunately.
I might pop down to Newby Bridge later and have a look at the River Leven as it leaves Windermere. I’ll post an image or two if poss. Thanks for your message and concern. Apologies – this is a blanket message to all.
Thanks - not sure if externals work with Linux though! If you're interested, PC W**ld may still have their offer on a 320Gb external hard drive for just £49.99! I considered that for the data transferral until I realised. Thanks!
Nah, I was pretty concerned TBH. I thought of stopping at one point, but then thought that as it doesn't work anyway I have nothing to lose, and only 3Gb of important files to gain. If I did have iron nerves, I'd consider opening up my working one and swapping the hard drive over...
Something wered is going on,when did this happen with this flint. Dear Lord Lori ,somebody must be informed at once. Incredible what you have done there,LOL.Jason
