HI,i have a friend who is fanatical on photographing king fishers,he says a hide is a must ,he can wait all day and get one or two shots when the bird comes to rest for ten seconds or so,his main trick is to position a resting branch along a stream within distance of his camera,(in the hide of course)and set yourself up for this shot on the branch ,he says there is no point chasing the kingfishers ,let them come to you ,and of course make sure your hide is on or near a kingfishers route, patience will reward in the end ,hope this helps a little,.
