Gosh, this is an awfully complicated site for a novice. I think I'm replying to Mike (Lancashire Lad) but not sure. If so, the intended use of Enchanters nightshade pic is in a forthcoming book (to be published by Whittet Books in the Spring) entitled 'Flowers in the Field' which is an introduction to field botany - something that seems never to have existed and which there seems to be quite a need for. The context is in discussing how to do an on-the-spot sketch of a plant, then showing the photograph to compare it with. Yours is a pic that shows every diagnostic character very clearly.

Hi Mike. Just a suggestion but if you have the time, a trip to Gisburn forest in North Lancashire is a fairly productive place for a fungi foray. It is a bit of a drive to get there but it usually comes up trumps with all sorts of goodies!

Hi Mike, thanks for comments on Bog Asphodel - you might not have seen my post on the outdoor thread 'yeoman hey reservoir' which was really about a look to find them in flower now on the moors here.

I'm surprised its new to you - but as a help, this is the right time now and they must be on the bolton/darwen moors or Bowland? If you look for boggy slacks, they are there or often at the side of tiny rivulets, coming off peat moorland - just so easy to see with the lovely yellow spikes sticking up, sometimes in profusion. Dont like disturbance much though.
If you want the location of mine, just let me know, but its a bit far to travel......?
And by the way, I was meaning to message you but dont have time on the PC - terrific fungi finds and shots recently, on top of your flowers. Cracking stuff.

JUst seen your post saying you haven't seen Vipers Bugloss or Bee Orchid. I think Longton Brickcroft would be worth a visit. The bugloss grows around the pond on the left hand side. Bee Orchid is on the old tram bridge in Penwortham and its also on the dunes and in Cuerden Valley

Thanks, Mike ;-) I agree. The only time it seems acceptable to fly the English flag is when the English team are playing in the World Cup! And to me, that is a reason *not* to want to be seen as being English, lol! x
