- Two left at Amazon but they are legs only at £96 so you would have to buy the head seperate and that may make it more expensive and also gives you a nightmare trying to figure out which head is best pan and tilt, ball etc - its a world all of its own - I would go for the pan and tilt at £150-ish ...
- Yes I know Gitzo are riduculously expensive and I don;t think one of theirs is neccessary at the min - google Velbon Sherpa 530 and see the choices - a very quick look has shown it at around £150 - I think this would be ideal for you - but if poss try and get to a dealer and see one - use it in the shop put your camera on it and try it open full height and flattened to the ground and make sure the pan and tilt head is part of the deal - when I bought mine I bought it legs only as I already had a cobbled head for fungi and the King Cobra for the big lenses - have a look at one - I would hazard a guess that its a reasonable price and will do the job for you ....
- 23-11-2011 01:42 PM - permalinkBillyPilgrimHi Elaine, sorry I didn't notice that they did both an IS and non-IS version. Cheapest I've seen the IS version is £753 here - Panamoz Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens with 3 Year Warranty Electronics
If you want to buy from them I'd do a Google search and read all the reviews first as they are not UK owned. -

Interesting I didn't know we could post pics into messages here on folks pages - if you click on the enlarged pic jumps up and you can see what I mean about the leg clips being round and nothing to catch in vegetation. Some of the more expensive makes (I'm thinking Gitzo poss tho I haven't looked but they may be doing catches like this?) - Hi Elaine - you may struggle to get the same model now Elaine - when I ordered one for Ian last year I could find just two new ones left in the whole country - one in London and one in Bournemouth! I got the one from Bournemouth - the reason why it had to be this is cos of the leg clips - clean full circles - no sticky-out bits catching vegetation. This model exists in a new form (I think) but its had sticky-out catches! So its a Velbon Sherpa Pro CF630 I will post an image in Forums Gallery to show what I mean!
- 23-11-2011 12:38 AM - permalinkBillyPilgrimHi Elaine, good for you, it looks like a great lens and I'm sure you'll have great fun with it. You realise that you can get it for £450-£550 if you shop around?
The Canon collar costs serious money. If it were me I'd try the lens hand-held for a while to see if I could do without the collar. I have the Canon 300mm f\4 and it almost never goes on a tripod but I don't do landscape photos.
If you really want the collar have you thought about trying a cheaper one? I realise that some of them scratch the lens body but some apparently don't. At least the reviews for this one say not - JJC TR-1 tripod mount ring replaces Canon Tripod Mount: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics - if it were me I'd order it, give it a try and send it back if not satisfied. I use mostly Canon stuff but some of it really is vastly over-priced and 3rd-party stuff can work just as well.
Good luck! - 22-11-2011 02:31 PM - permalinkDeb LondonNutter alert?

The exam went BADLY! :-( Might take some time off to buck his spirits up as he feels confident that he failed. :-( :-( - 19-11-2011 12:33 AM - permalinkbran goesgochYes very impressive pic Elaine, glad you hear you had a great time out there.
