I don't know if you saw it during the week - I think it was on 'The One Show':
It was about using draft horses for woodland management in Herts.. and I think St. Stephens was mentioned ( I didn't know there was a wood there), but it then went on to say that they were going to use horses in Bricket Wood for management. The item showed a Clydesdale, and another I can't remember the name of, harnessed together and dragging an oak log out of the wood - it was quite a pretty sight.
I mention this because I remembered your profile indicates you're a 'horsey' person.
Re: Egyptian Goose, this one is also on a local patch mixed in with Canadas and has been for some years now, but the only Egyptian cant help feeling sorry for it.
Thanks for the kind comments on my Pied Flycatcher pic. It was taken in a local wood, the first time I saw P Fly I traveled to Coombes in Staffs, 100 mile round trip. I didn't know they were just over the hill from me.
I've had a nice day... I received a book on insects and one on photography, and took the day off work and went to Pennington Flash nature reserve instead... not a bad day all round!
Hi Julie - I got a small art kit for sketches and was like a big kid - I had to try every pencil and pastel, and even the rubber thingy that's like "Blutak". Had great fun with a glistening inkcap. The resulting artwork wasn't good, but the interesting thing is, it's really helped me with the ID of said species. And I felt great benefit form "playing" - a bit like therapy. I don't have the lightness of touch or patience that I think you have. And very little experience. But the keyword is fun :-)
I put the drawing on my Mabon altar (not seriously into witchcraft or anything, but have a little space that I decorate every 6-7 weeks - if nothing else it keeps me in touch with the Earth and the Seasons). The idea of a Halloween drawing/painting is interesting. Do you have any ideas yet?
Take care,
x
PS - sorry about your bout of flu - there is so much around at the mo. Take the Doctor's advice and drink lots of hot drinks and keep warm. I think there's a thread on WAB for home remedies (if you get desperate ;-)
