There was a small shop at TL 136 023. I don't know if it's still there though. The main parade of shops is at TL 128 024. 'The Fox' pub is at TL 126 003. As I've previously mentioned, there's a house with interesting Edwardian friezes on the upper story in School Lane. It's at TL 130 005. If you're near, it's worth a look. As I recall, the path from TL 133 007 to 128 011 is _very_ muddy!
It looks and sounds like an interesting area..lets hope when i make my visit the sunshines so i can take a little walk about and make it more of an enjoyable day out..
Do you know on what street you can find the PO.Ive printed off a map covering from Station Rd down to Bucknalls lane.
Incidentally, Bricket Wood Station has an interesting history. It used to have a very long platform to take excursion trains, coming from London via Watford. There were 2 static fairs on the common, before the 2nd World War, and my late father in law remembered coming from Kentish Town to them when he was a boy. I think in the local Post Office you can get postcards with pictures of the fairs.
Thanx for directions and for parking...Have printed of a map of the common and also a copy of The Abbey Flyer waymarks , showing various routes starting from the bricket wood station with a 1.5miles loop walk and another up 4 miles..this week end is not good for me either...but its on the cards for me very soon..
Bricket Wood may be better than Potter's Crouch for fungi at this time - it's usually wetter. I haven't been to either for a couple of years and must give them a try.
