- Have pm,d you a short message! No I'm not on Flickr or Face Book and I don;t 'tweet' either - I suppose I may get around to it eventually - but I find it hard enough keeping up with here and Bird Guides!!!! Actually I was crowing just before xmas that I hadn't been ill since finishing work - then I went down in good style with a virus and temp on boxing day and then again this week - well last Sat I woke with the sorest of throats - but this time I went all out to get shut and had acupuncture and cupping and huge amounts of echinacea and garlic and manuka honey and a few paracetamol with the result I was ill for two days but began to get over it has fast as it began after the low spot ......... I'm not kicking fit today but I don't feel ill and I haven't fallen asleep when I;ve sat down. As Gracie say the pure Scottish air should finish the healing !!!!!

It was the grass species in your image and a stab at habitat type by me! I've had a couple of sightings in the same habitat and have wondered what their prey was.
Squeeking can be brilliant - my memorable occassion was when a weasel ran right up to me and out its front feet on my right wellie before realising what was going on and shooting of at top speed. I don't see half as many as I did years ago. - Looking forward to views from your proposed trips! As for new year I'm not fussed with this year - I took ill with normal flu on Boxing Day and had the luxuory of going to bed for a week! So I'm well rested and stir crazy!! Mam not had anymore fits since they reduced the drug that I think was causing it ... but the home is in quarantine with vomiting and diarrohea so finally today (not seen her since xmas morn) I went and stood at the french doors and talked to her thro the glass! She's pale but seems ok otherwise. Am looking forward to going out tomorrow - might go for the red-necked grebe that has been reported at Fairhaven Lake, Lytham ......
- I noticed a few days ago you had commented on my pics - thank you! I meant to get back to you but mam has been rushed into hospital again and I just can't catch up with anything or anyone ......... She's back at the home about an hour ago and searching high and low for her teeth - if they had phoned me like they promised when she came back I could have told them I'd got her teeth - anyway enough of that. Hope all is well with you and I've already spotted N York moors pics and commented - you really do have the eye for a view and the lighting as well - absolutely gorgeous - I could sit and look at your views all day and day-dream ..........
- Paul, Thanks for the sparrow hawk comments, I've seen her a few times out the back bothering the birds but thats the first time she's touched down.
Regards
Rob - Glad you got the camera back-eventually!! What was the problem?
Kestrels dispersed quickly this year, think the hot weather sent them to the refuge of the trees instead of hanging around castle.Three young-all females again!
Saw at least two juvenile sparrowhawks on the downs,by the sound of it still begging for food of parents. That was on Sunday-so should still be around for a while.
My sighting of the year must be the juvenile cuckoo-pure luck I saw it,down near the flood plains towards Benfleet. Here is a photo of it
Hope you are well Paul
Ellen

- Hi Paul, thanks for the comment on the LTT-they were sitting in trees on the footpath going towards Benfleet in the park.Still around this morning too!
