fish.......mmmmmmmmh - I fished madly from about 14yrs to 26 yrs and its still a thrill to see the likes of Carp basking in the sun, cruising the top to feed. Floating crust was always fun to use for them, taught me how to be not seen by wildlife as well!
Anyway, the canal fish - there are what you would expect - Roach, rudd, perch, different carps, common and some crucian I believe, plus tench and probably little gudgeon - but they will 99% have been stocked, so there could be others - I have stocked with bream, grayling and chub!
The top feeders you describe in the sun are probably a mixture of shoals of roach and rudd, both of which have reddish fins - rudd more so than roach, and not much bigger than 15'' long or about 1.5lbs - roach grow to only 3-4 lbs max.
I dont know if there are Pike, and there will be some odd brown or rainbow trout.
Not only are they enjoying warmer temps, they will be looking for food, but most of all for oxygenation.
Cheers
Ken
Hi Ken, just letting you know I got a reply from Roy Taylor this morning and he said he would forward my email to Kirsten Whittaker who is their volunteers officer, so will just have to wait and see if anything comes of it. Thanks for helping me out with it all :)
ha ha, good one, missed me at first!
I thought you meant was I wise, but then had a reality check and understood!
Mind you I have been 'too wet' today............
Hi Ken, it seems another Saddleworth local has joined WAB! we should start a club lol. They were asking about animals that could be seen in Saddleworth in a thread in General Wildlife, I thought maybe you could post some info as you know a lot about the local wildlife :)
So do I, its daunting there are so many brilliant snappers on WAB - I take so many with me little compact, some turn out reasonable though.......I think. Mind you, some people take thousands a day, hmmmm, not me, I'd be on the PC all day sorting, not my style, I'd rather be out there.
