- 07-07-2009 02:49 PM - permalinkhannahpandaHey James, have you spoken to anyone about volunteering at the greenfield RSPB site? I'd be really interested in that too, have you heard back from anyone? I gather there has been some delay with the site? I don't suppose you have an email address for someone I could contact regarding volunteer work or any surveys they may do before the site is officially opened?
- 06-07-2009 06:25 PM - permalinkhannahpandaYou know more than me! Especially about local wildlife! Sometimes I think my degree was a waste of time.
I'll have a look for it, I thought I had bookmarked it but I cannot find it. Theres this one contact but I think the other one I found has more diagrams and information. I'll keep looking! - 06-07-2009 05:55 PM - permalinkhannahpandaHey sorry I haven't replied sooner I don't come on here much, I always realise how little I know when im on here haha!
I've been okay, could be better, still struggling to find a job- degree related or not! Saw a lovely pair of Jays the other day and a juvenile heron stretching and posing by the pond in Uppermill. Glad to hear your okay! I've just seen your owl photo!! Where did you spot that? I've also seen you discussing moth traps? I tried sugaring in my garden last year but it didn't work =( I found a website with how to make your own moth light traps and have been meaning to try it but haven't got round to it yet! - great - thats what I meant, think it through - then talk to them......... see how they react, I think its terific - if they arent interested, let me know why etc etc and lets see what else there is..
- FAB idea - if Brownhills dont want a moth trap they must be daft - its a great idea, partic if someone will do it for them.
Just talk to them - think how to do it first, making it easy for them and ironing out any snags and point out the benefits for them (not just you!) - maybe include some results in a 'newsletter' etc, get some kids involved ???
let me know! - Sorry to hear you've had a bad tum, James :( I spoke to you just a couple of hours before you were due to "get up" and you seemed ok then? How annoying when it comes on suddenly like that! Still, there will be other times....the sun rises every day! lol. Yes, I'm fine, thanks ;) D. xx
- still no map ? he he!
bridleway route - depends how far you want to walk - it goes via middle holly grove in diggle, then up boat lane at the side of the diggle hotel, then does go up to Brun res on standedge cutting, then from there, rather than the pennine way or bridleway dropping down to castleshaw, you can go down the road to where the old burnt out pub is (a source of great upset to me, it was the very best in saddleworth, the horse and jockey).
Go through the hamlet (bleak hey nook) behind that pub and it brings you out at Castleshaw resvrs, you can take lots of different down the valley routes there, past hull mill dam into delph, then from delph station the old traintrack (delph donkey) back to dobcross and then to greenfield and a rest!
Good route, enjoy - lots of different environments, gardens, moorland, res, ponds woods etc etc.
Cheers
Ken - I walked home from Delph this morning via the Slackcote valley (between Delph and Denshaw). It looks ideal for roe deer, a very quite place. There were a couple of whitethroats and a sedge warbler there this morn.
