James, forgot -this lot may still be showing gorgeous yellow - go up from greenfield sta towards the quarry entrance, theres a lot of recent woodshavings/chippings just at the road there - theyre growing in that, just clear some chips away to expose the long stems.
Sorry it mayyyyyy be too late, but worth a look!

It would indeed James, or waterworks road, waterhead, where Oldham Countryside Service have their main centre - I know Tameside Countryside are not taking volunteers at the moment though!
Good luck, its always fun..............!
What about contacting RSPB, Wakefield, their northern centre, if they are going to open up at Dovestones later this year? Roy Taylor is organising it, he's on 07710 084415.

Hi James, foxes, mmhhh, thats a good question!
Yep, we do have quite a few of them, heard screaming besides views, as you know with yours in the day, but no idea whether they are more here than anywhere else - I know they are up on the moors too, and we have lots of sheep farms, but numbers..... dont know. Used to be more urban foxes in shaw when I lived there for a while , than here, probably cos of more food availability in bins as more people................?
As a guess, I bet we have more proper country fox families than urban marauders, but in terms of overall numbers, probably a few less than towns such as oldham/rochdale/ashton. theres less food on the moors and I know at least one sheep farmer that has a shotgun and no fox problem! - ask a ranger at Brownhills or some local farmers?

mmmmhh, nice one James, they were a pair, not feeding young, so possibly juveniles looking for a good site - breeding - food? Lots and lots of rabbits up there!
Let me know if you keep seeing them, and me to you of course - I have seen them at Millbrook with a possible nest site last year, so always possible.
