Hello James! :) I'm fine, weather too hot at the mo but getting lots of interesting bug pics! A little happier today as the car passed it's MOT after some hassle, lol, an 18 year old car but I love it. How's things your way? Janet :)
Hey James! That is a brilliant shot! How atmospheric...how gothic! lol. Great the way you have the arch framing the owl like that. Baby barn Owl? You must be thrilled....:D
Hi sweetness! How was your weekend? Sorry I wasn't about much. Visited the WWT at Arundel yesterday and couldn't have hoped for better weather....hot, humid, and even a sprinkling of raindrops to add to the (almost!) tropical atmosphere! I loved every moment....Oh, and getting so up close and personal with the birds (they are so tame they run up to see you) I now can tell which is a coot and which is a moorhen at 500 yards! lol. Also spotted a water vole along the banks of the river Adur...
Hmm, how comes me and Ken leave you such long messages?! lol. Talk soon, D. x
fish.......mmmmmmmmh - I fished madly from about 14yrs to 26 yrs and its still a thrill to see the likes of Carp basking in the sun, cruising the top to feed. Floating crust was always fun to use for them, taught me how to be not seen by wildlife as well!
Anyway, the canal fish - there are what you would expect - Roach, rudd, perch, different carps, common and some crucian I believe, plus tench and probably little gudgeon - but they will 99% have been stocked, so there could be others - I have stocked with bream, grayling and chub!
The top feeders you describe in the sun are probably a mixture of shoals of roach and rudd, both of which have reddish fins - rudd more so than roach, and not much bigger than 15'' long or about 1.5lbs - roach grow to only 3-4 lbs max.
I dont know if there are Pike, and there will be some odd brown or rainbow trout.
Not only are they enjoying warmer temps, they will be looking for food, but most of all for oxygenation.
Cheers
Ken
Great to hear you have the sunshine too James :) Lol! There was only three of us last night, for a couple of hours, so it wasn't busy at all, not like the couple of previous nights! I too ought to be getting to bed earlier (yes, I keep saying that!) What I need is a mum to come and "unplug" ME! lol :D D. x
