all sounds like fun. I am soooo busy, Country Day this weekend at th old forestry campsite at Balmacara, then maybe a rhody day on the 22nd. Got a rhody contract starting today and sooo much work for the Japanese Knotweed Project and still got the day job to do. Have you checked out the rhody lever mulch method, apparently there is an open day on the 14th in Morven. Oh and i'm getting Mapinfo gis training....can i have a few more hours in the day please?!

hi there ,been a bit of a start for me,went to derby on an access and safety course,it was really good ,saw a bit of the country ,i'd never been to before. done a nptc course on atv ,now fully qualified (again sigh!!) to operate a quad bike. glen coe now comes under lochaber forest district, still got the same forester though!! and that's about it !! heard a cuckoo the other day so summers in the post!! have a good one!!

Glad you enjoyed it, we have our Countryside Conference starting tomorrow, that reminds me i must pack that bottle of malt...I would have loved to go but i got lots on this month already, Lichens on Saturday until Monday, then Edinburgh for Access trainig until Wed and possibly Rhody killing by the lever mulch method end of next week so it's pretty full on. Did you see any watr voles, i been looking for them, found one site so far.

hi there just thought i'd up date you on the rhoddy thing. a team of people arrived in glen coe lochan and are harvesting rhoddy stems then cutting them to 30cms ,bundling them and taking them away to make wreaths ,and they're paying us,and just to make you jealous i'm on this in november

Ok so the rhody thing sounds interesting, previous control has been spreading seed?? I am just about to do a survey and then a control spec and would be interested to hear more about the course you were on. The Ranger thing in Loch Lomond sounds good, is that a commission thing. We've got our countryside conference in Nov at Glen Mor i gotta give a talk on archaeological monitoring oh joy! Gave an invasives talk last week and um could have been a bit better, no time to practice. Anyway just waiting to sort out equipment bugs then can get out there and do some work. As for the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, i love it, bring on the winter and it's storms and hopefully it's snow. B.

hi there rhoddy control course was very enlightening ,seems our current practice is all wrong and was acctually spreading seed ,nowadays the best method is to mulch every thing ,the heat created by the proccess destroys the seed ,well we learn something new every day!!! i've got a place on the ranger meet at loch lomond in november ,looking forward to it .for the workshops i've choosen ,wildlife crime,effect of wild camping and practical wood land skills ,and for the field visit,water voles ,so it should be ok. hope thing are going well for you, and are having a peaceful autumn .

Hey sounds like you've been busy. I am about to be very busy as well, i have a rhododendron survey to do and a control spec after that. Then i'v got woodland surveys, a photo survey of the common grazings, a footpath furniture assessment waymarkers etc and an update of the amber survey.... we've a new tree inspection system coming in so there will be a course for that it's gonna be a busy one and i'v gotta help in the garden cos the gardener is off with tendonitis. Who said winter was the quiet time.
