Just joined
Thought I might find you here under name search "harassed".
Paul Woolnough - Hi Harasseddad, I viewed one of your post replies and you seemed very knowledgeable about dragonflies! I wonder if you could help me with a question I have? This morning a Darter (Four Spotted I think) nymph started to emerge. We watched it for a while as it made good progress but as it's wings began to unfold it lost it's grip in the wind and fell of it's perch. We carefully helped it to crawl back up on a stick but the wings were damaged. I returned to have a look later, but the wings never opened properly and remained crumpled and the Darter was unable to fly. I presume this emergence stage is very precarious and any damage can be fatal. Is there anything we could have done and would it have been better to have left it where it fell? The Darter was holding onto a wooden picket fence and I wonder if it had chosen a more natural perch such as the reeds it would have stood a greater chance of survival? Thanks for your help.
- Thank you - oh and to reply to me click on 'see conversation', else I don't know you have replied LOL
Is it work going to Strumpshaw this weekend do you think, how many have been seen now? - 19-05-2009 10:50 PM - permalinkharasseddadSorry about delay in replying here - only just found this message! (D'oh!)
There's a travellodge at Acle, which is just a few miles to the east.
Swallowtails have now been reported - as you probably saw on Norfolk Wildlife. - Is there a travelodge near Strumpshaw? or do you know of any accommodation nearby?
- 15-05-2009 11:40 PM - permalinkharasseddadHi,
No Swallowtails yet - there was a report of one at Strumpshaw on Monday but it turned out to be a Peacock! Still not sure how they managed to confuse those two! They shoudl be out in a week or two though. Last year the first report was the 20th, but this week is expected to be wet. - Hi Andy,
You probably don't remember me, but I'm a member of the Norfolk wildlife email group and I asked you the best times to see the Swallowtails.
Glad to see you are a member of here too :-)
Any news on the Swallows showing at Strumpshaw yet?
Cheers
