Think she used the blanket as a "magic"shield lol......
I love storms too,be it watching from a window to actually walking in one.Of course it depends where I am walking at the time-bit,no very scary when caught out on the marshes or floodplains. Favourite time for thunderstorms are at night where you can watch the lightning!!! Have been out with friends where we sit in a car watching a storm come in from the estuary from Kent-brilliant!!
I think if I was in America I would definitely be a storm chaser there-to witness the power of a tornado, dangerous but amazing!! Bet most people would consider us bonkers eh??lol

Ah bless! I used to be that frightened of thunder and lightening when I was young but I've grown out of it - in fact somewhere along the way my fear turned to excitement and I'm now daft enough to go storm chasing when ever the opportunity arises - all too little in this country - the the last time I did I almost got into very serious trouble with it and had it got as far as the news I've no doubt some Police Chief would have been on telly talking about stupid folk who get into predicaments and put emergency services people at risk ....... I love the bit about the blanket over the head tho - I wonder what she thought that would stop happening??!! Eh dear!

Yes my aunt was a real character. She was always doing daft things..
She had a badger sett at the top of her garden and used to make them peanut butter sandwiches every night. Now she hated the smell of peanut butter and used to wrap a scarf round her face so she couldn't smell it!!
She was petrified of thunderstorms though,if there was one I would go round to her house(only a few minutes away from where I live) to find her sitting under the table with a blanket over her head. She had a transister radio with her and when it crackled-with the lightning_she would stuff her fingers in her ears to block out the thunder!! If someone was with her she would be a lot braver-sitting at the table with the blanket still over her head.!
She died about 15 years ago,but I still miss her :)

Now that is funny - I've had a fit of the giggles at that one!

Glad to see all went well this afternoon.Your mam does sound like a real character,I am sure by what you have said it is dementia,a terrible affliction to have-more so for the family.I am glad she was more her old self today, hope the CT scan goes ok when she has it...It did make me laugh at the mention of her "benny" hat,I had an aunt who wore a tartan wooly hat and one day I picked it up for her to discover it was a tea cosy!! She thought it was a hat and had been wearing it for months, she said she thought the seam had come undone where the spout hole was!!

Another PS - thanks for comment re greenshank! I have to say we had a stormin day out - it was the very thing after all these weeks of struggling against no light - nothing to photograph - pain in my elbow and ribs - then along comes yesterday - and the intuition to go to the Spinnies - and suddenly we were holding our breath as a succession of species passed across the front of the hide - the only bird that didn't was the kingfisher - it appeared at the back of the pool 100 yards off - if it had come and landed on the post out front I think I would have had a heart attack and died happy!!

Forgive me Ellen for pasting this is copied straight from my conversation with Janet before but its news I wanted to pass on! Got up to a reasonable cover of snow this morning - but I didn't have to go anywhere till 1.30pm so just let it all melt off! Ian had to sweep it off the works van but it had gone off my car by the time I needed it. Spent the afternoon in the hospital with mam - a 2.30pm app which I turned up early for by half an hour and still we were last in (how does that work?!) and didn't get out till half four after her having a trip to the ECG machine and bck to the clinic then another trip (walking shoes req its that far across the hospital!) to have her bloods done. They are going to send her for a CT scan in the next few weeks which I suppose will prove whether its senile dementia or a tumour or some other reason for this loss of memory. I'm pretty sure its dementia - she's quite typical with the short term memory loss. Bless her I phoned early this morning and asked her to have a bath and wash her hair and she had - also had found some decent looking shoes, clean pants, clean undies, and a very clean jumper with not a trace of food on the front - then she topped it off with a decent cap - not her tea cosy 'benny' hat! She actually looked fine and like the mum I remember! So things looking good here at the min!
PS That gull shot is fantastic - a real grabbed opportunity once in a lifetime shot - well done for having the presence of mind to get it! By the way I meant to say to you - we missed that spectacular sunrise too - was that only yesterday? Anyway it was all shades of blazing red here - quite fantastic - would have looked fab over The Flash - but of course we were home looking thro the living room window!

Hi Pauline, thanks for comment on the gulls photo.Really was a case of seeing a shot and going for it.Came out better than expected! Today has snowed all day,had no oppurtunity to get out and take photos-work got in the way. Also was a tad overcast!
Looks like its thawing at the moment, but is meant to freeze later,so looks like an icy start tomorrow.Hope you are well and keeping warm!!:)

Was that tongue in cheek Ellen - about wondering who and way? As if you needed to ask!!! Wales - wales - glorious wales!! Had a very good day - which I won't crow about yet - need to finish downloading before getting really carried away - but I'm hopeful ..... there may be pics and a thread later ...... sch! fingers crossed!!

This is the second time I have had to write this-got timed out grrr
Had an aunt who had the same condition as your mam so know how distressing and daunting it can be.It was like walking on egg shells, never knew if she was going to accuse you of stealing her bank book or had hidden her food!! You have to remind yourself it is the illness talking otherwise it could drive you to despair...
Was miffed this morning as I had set out a bit later than I usually do and missed a spectacular sunrise!!! Hoping there might be a good one tomorrow, though cloud cover may be too thick.Snow is forecast for the afternoon, but you are right we seem to get of a lot lighter than Kent.Manys the time I have stood looking across the Thames to see Kent covered in snow and us remaining bone dry!!
Hope you have a good day tomorrow, wonder who will get there way? :)
