- You're very welcome Ellen. Clicking and hoping certainly worked this time - it's a very beautiful image!
Dave P. - 02-02-2009 08:04 PM - permalinkPete CollinsDid you get out in the snow this afternoon for any photos?
I wimped out of going walking today. I was all set to go, then decided it was a daft idea. It looked like it was going to snow for most of the day (which it did!) and I thought I wouldn't get any decent shots while it was actually snowing. Thought it better if I walked tomorrow instead, when there should be some clear skies and the photos could be much better.
Saw a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Song Thrush in the garden today, and generally the birds were much more active thanm usual.
Pete - Another PS - thanks for comment re greenshank! I have to say we had a stormin day out - it was the very thing after all these weeks of struggling against no light - nothing to photograph - pain in my elbow and ribs - then along comes yesterday - and the intuition to go to the Spinnies - and suddenly we were holding our breath as a succession of species passed across the front of the hide - the only bird that didn't was the kingfisher - it appeared at the back of the pool 100 yards off - if it had come and landed on the post out front I think I would have had a heart attack and died happy!!
- Forgive me Ellen for pasting this is copied straight from my conversation with Janet before but its news I wanted to pass on! Got up to a reasonable cover of snow this morning - but I didn't have to go anywhere till 1.30pm so just let it all melt off! Ian had to sweep it off the works van but it had gone off my car by the time I needed it. Spent the afternoon in the hospital with mam - a 2.30pm app which I turned up early for by half an hour and still we were last in (how does that work?!) and didn't get out till half four after her having a trip to the ECG machine and bck to the clinic then another trip (walking shoes req its that far across the hospital!) to have her bloods done. They are going to send her for a CT scan in the next few weeks which I suppose will prove whether its senile dementia or a tumour or some other reason for this loss of memory. I'm pretty sure its dementia - she's quite typical with the short term memory loss. Bless her I phoned early this morning and asked her to have a bath and wash her hair and she had - also had found some decent looking shoes, clean pants, clean undies, and a very clean jumper with not a trace of food on the front - then she topped it off with a decent cap - not her tea cosy 'benny' hat! She actually looked fine and like the mum I remember! So things looking good here at the min!
PS That gull shot is fantastic - a real grabbed opportunity once in a lifetime shot - well done for having the presence of mind to get it! By the way I meant to say to you - we missed that spectacular sunrise too - was that only yesterday? Anyway it was all shades of blazing red here - quite fantastic - would have looked fab over The Flash - but of course we were home looking thro the living room window! - Me being sarky? Never lol.... Glad you had an apparently good time, look forward to the post and piccies!
My day was not so good,no glorious sunrise, just a bitterly cold wind blowing snow clouds over the sky.Didnt even take the camera out of the case-too dark and too cold!!! So decided to visit friends this afternoon and guess what-the sun came out!! Ok,was still freezing but may have got some shots in of the birds or scenery, just my luck eh!
Managed to put a few photos in my Gallery of a sparrow being buffeted by the wind and a dunnock. Also a photo of gulls against a foggy sun-wasnt sure where to stick it though-ended up in the weather Gallery...
We have had snow-just a light layer though. It fell after dark,we may get more overnight.Expect it wont last, never seems to round here.Pity as I do like to see it over the fields and country park.
Aah well work tomorrow, which means we will have a substantual amount of snow that I cant be out in......... - Was that tongue in cheek Ellen - about wondering who and way? As if you needed to ask!!! Wales - wales - glorious wales!! Had a very good day - which I won't crow about yet - need to finish downloading before getting really carried away - but I'm hopeful ..... there may be pics and a thread later ...... sch! fingers crossed!!
- 01-02-2009 05:33 PM - permalinkPete CollinsThe snow here has stopped, but it has settled, though just a light sprinkling. Looks like there'll be more later - even if it snows tomorrow, I might go for a walk.Hope you manage to get out and get some photos tomorrow.
Pete - 01-02-2009 04:56 PM - permalinkPete CollinsYes, ellen, it makes me realise that I should be more optimistic about my photography, instead of assuming I neeed perfect conditions! And I should look harder for unusual shots.
When I go for a walk, I usualy plan on photographing the route for my web site, and/or snapping any birds, mammals or wildflowers that I see. I should look out for odd little things that would make a good photo.
Just noticed that the snow has finally arrived here! Fingers crosssed I met get some more winter scene shots tomorrow!
Take care,
Pete - The best pics happen like that did you see my ice pic..That was weird..
- Yes thanks Ellen - mam is not too bad tho begining to get a bit wound up now at the thought of Mons hospital app. I'm just waiting for her to get the idea that I'm having her assessed so I can have her locked up in a home somewhere ........... I've explained sev times today that I'm having her assessed for just the opposite reason - so that I get a better idea of how long I can keep her out of somewhere like that ....... plus she keeps checking her purse - I can hear her doing it while I'm busy in the kitchen making her meals - so the other day I asked her outright (knowing that one of the symptoms of this disease is accusing relatives of stealing) whether she thought I was taking her money! She was appalled that I thought that she thought such a thing! Its not stopped her checking her purse tho!! Ian is still at the stage of saying 'You wot?' to everything I say! No change there then! And my ribs are still very sore - my elbow even more sore than that - I don't know - we're hopeless arn't we!
I think you might get some snow shots poss from your neck of the woods? I'll bet its chilly at the min with that easterly steaming straight at you - tho I guess you do 'hide' behind Kent a bit! Its looking like Mon for the bulk of it and maybe again on Thurs from some of the web weather sites? Forecast is for full sun in north wales again tomorrow - tho they were wrong last time - not sure what we are going to do with our one day - Ian wants to do the waxwing in Warrington and the rails and heron at Orrell and I predicatably want to go to Wales.......... Hmmmmmmmm.......!
